Ian Cameron McMicking Hall passed away on May 1, 2023 in Palm Desert, California.
Ian was born in Manila, Philippines, on January 12,1934 to the late Alaistair Cameron Hall and Consuelo Rico Ynchausti McMicking. Ian and his two brothers & sister lived a happy childhood in Manila, until December 8th, 1941 when Japan invaded the country. For three years, he lived in the family home with his mother, siblings and other relatives, while his father was interned as an allied civilian POW at the Santo Tomas Internment Camp. In January of 1945 as the American forces began to liberate Manila, Ian's mother, grandmother, aunt and uncle were arrested by Japanese soldiers and later executed. As a 12-year-old boy, Ian sheltered in the rubble and ruins of their destroyed city for days before they were reunited with their father. Ian and his brothers Roderick & Alaistair & sister Consuelo never forgot the American soldiers who rescued them.
In June of 1945, Ian and Rod were sent to school in Scotland, his father's home country, where they lived with their grandmother and aunts. They returned to Manila in 1948 to finish their last few years at the American School. Ian attended Stanford University, graduating in 1955 & enlisted in the US Army where he was assigned to duty in Washington DC.
In 1961, Ian married his first wife Leslie deBretteville and welcomed two sons Ian deBretteville Hall and Charles Cameron Hall.
Ian had a successful career as a Stockbroker beginning in 1962 with Sutro and Co. in San Francisco retiring in 1990.
In 1991, Ian married Cynthia Lemmon Lagomarsino. Throughout their 30 years together, they lived in San Francisco, Sacramento, St. Helena and Palm Desert.
Ian was a member of the following clubs: Pacific Union (San Francisco), San Francisco Golf Club, Cypress Point (Pebble Beach), Marrakesh (Palm Desert), Burlingame Country Club, El Dorado(Indian Wells), Del Paso (Sacramento).
Ian was especially proud of his Scottish, Spanish, Basque & Filipino heritage. He was a loving husband, and father and was a devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Ian was predeceased in 2018 by his wife Cynthia; his son Ian deBretteville Hall, his brothers Alaistair C.M. Hall and Roderick C.M.Hall, his father Alaistair C.Hall & step-mother Juanita S. Hall. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by son Charles Cameron Hall; daughter Kate Trevelyan Hall; and Cynthia's children and grand children Brad Lagomarsino(Leslie); Greig Lagomarsino (Sally); Brian Lagomarsino(Jennifer) and Charley, Lane, Will, Liv, John, Ella and Bo Lagomarsino; & his sister Consuelo Hall McHugh as well as his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family in the US and the Philippines.
There will be a private family Service in San Francisco. Ian and his beloved Cynthia will be laid to rest together.
