Iran Billman Obituary

Iran Billman

Iran, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend, has departed to meet her Creator.

As a young woman, Iran left the comforts of her home and family in Iran for study and adventure in the U.S., with no family or friends here. While studying in Los Angeles, she had many promising suitors, but chose a young art/photography student to be her partner in life. Together, Iran and Howard would spend 53 years together, building upon their foundation and raising three beautiful daughters, Azita, Sheila and Desiree, in San Francisco. Eventually, Iran and Howard were graced with two sons-in-law, Farzin and Paul, and five granddaughters, Kimia, Niki, Skylar, Kayla & Kiana.

While raising her daughters, Iran found time to develop meaningful friendships, run a small business, and support local non-profits. She loved the arts, had a great passion for music, and threw magnificent parties. Iran never fully recovered from the precipitous loss of the family home in Seacliff in 1995, due to a 16 foot diameter sewer collapse in the Presidio. She watched the earth literally swallow her home. Although she was financially compensated, the place of so many important memories and history had vanished. Otherwise vibrant and healthy, the stress no doubt caused her NPH, but it was misdiagnosed as Alzheimers, and the correct diagnosis and shunt were not timely enough.

Iran and Howard purchased the Octogon House on Russian Hill and lived there until it became impracticable. Our loving, true, sparkling Iran will be dearly missed.
