My family is so fortunate to have had a wonderful friendship with Irwin. He was more than a friend as he was a teacher and mentor of life to me. His memory will always be a part of my life.

I knew Dr. Marcus for over 27 years. As the photographer at Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco I had the opportunity to listen to many of his jokes, My favorite was about the secret to a long and successful marriage, and it involved an Italian restaurant. Last summer I visited his home to deliver some photos I had printed at Costco. He offered me a cocktail and we sat on the patio for a chat. It was V8 juice and tequila, no ice. We each had a refill. Over five months after his passing I just realized he was gone. Nobody told me. Had I known I woulda had a ticker tape parade for him, down El Camino Real in San Mateo. Gosh I am missing him tons right now.

Irwin was one of the kindest sweetest, intelligent people we have known. Always with a smile, a joke, a way of putting people at ease, and a personality to match. We will miss him very much.

My father, Edward V. O'Gara, was a classmate and good friend of Irwin's at P&S. I remember Dr Marcus with fondness for his kindness and dumb jokes about my fat elbows while sitting in the dental chair on Ocean Avenue. Many years later I met his son Allen at Opera Plaza where we both lived in the early 80's and where I met my future husband, Barry. We have three daughters and live in San Francisco, not far from where I grew up. Please accept my deepest condolences at this time. I know Dr Marcus lived a full life and brought much joy to the lives of people he touched.

I had a Philip Marcus as a Lowell classmate in 1951, but I was only 10 when Irwin graduated from Lowell. Always sad to see another Lowell graduate pass. My heart goes out to Sonia and the family for the loss.

I remember Dr. Marcus. He donated his time doing orthodontic work for children at the Jewish home Home, Homewood Terrace where I was raised. He first saw us at the then Mt. Zion hospital dental clinic, and then did the work at his Lakeside Village office on Ocean Ave. I wore braces for about 5 years when I was a teen, during the early 1960's. He was a very nice compassionate man who believed in doing good for the community. May his memory be a blessing.

Dr. Marcus gave me my smile. Braces were my life from 1960-67. He was always incredibly kind and compassionate, even when tightening my braces. A life well lived. Sincere condolences to his family.

Sorry to hear the sad news. I got to meet Dr. Marcus when he participated in the 2017 Lowell High School commencement exercises, marking the 75th anniversary of his graduation from Lowell. Condolences to Mrs. Marcus and all of the family and friends he leaves behind from the Lowell Alumni Association.
