James "Jim" Wayne Basin
James Basin of Hillsborough, California, passed away on December 15 at the age of 80, following a long illness.
He was born in San Mateo, CA, on October 13, 1945 and raised in San Carlos as the only child of Sam and Marguerite Basin.
Jim was preceded in death by his adored parents, his half-sister Nancy Wakeman, and his niece Elizabeth Crowley. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maryann Saffold, his stepson Christopher Merrick, and wife Kayla, and his nephew Chris Wakeman.
Jim graduated from the USF School of Law in 1970. He was an accomplished attorney, publicly recognized early in his career. i.e. he started the first ever blood drive in San Bruno, CA, in 1972.
Beyond his professional life, he had a passion for exploring the world, having traveled to "more than 123 countries," as well as numerous professional baseball games around the US.
He approached every day with an infectious zest for life, a profound kindness that touched everyone he met, a wonderful sense of humor that brightened any room, and an unwavering commitment to friendship that left a lasting impact.
