James McCarthy Obituary

McCARTHY, James J. "Jim" - A retired San Francisco Muni bus driver who made his final run on the 26 line to Heaven, on February 11, 2005, after a short-term illness. Jim lived a long, wonderful life of 93 years. He was surrounded by friends and his adoring family. Jim was a wonderful man who touched the lives of all he met. He welcomed everyone to his home with an open heart. A devoted husband of the late Mary McCarthy; cherished father of Sharon, Karen, Kevin, Diane, Bonnie and the late Sr. Erica Bonnett, O.P.; fun-loving grandfather of Carol, Jeanne, Janette, Jay, Jill, Connor, Laura, Patrick, Mark and Denise; great grandfather of Shane, the late-Ricky, Marci, Jackie, Sophie, Susie, Audrey, Owen, Brigette and Aidan; brother-in-law of Geraldine Keeley and the late Nora Zaragoza; in-law of the late I. Thomas Zarogoza, Frank Keeley, Dennis Creedon, John Montenero, Ann McCarthy, Alex Alvarado, Sean Lynd and Rod Alavi; loving friend of Clara Fanella; also survived by a niece, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear family, friends and his faithful cat Misty. He will be missed forever. Jim was a proud native San Franciscan born on November 15, 1911 and attended Mission High School. He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army and a veteran of World War II. He became a Muni bus driver in 1942 and retired 34 years later in 1976. Jim was a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, South San Francisco Parlor #157 for over 50 years. He loved this organization with all his heart. The family would like to express their gratitude to Kaiser San Rafael for the wonderful care their father received. The Vigil Service will be on Tuesday February 15, 2005 at 7:00p.m. at Daphne Funerals Marin, 601 Tamalpais Drive, Corte Madera, CA. Friends are invited to attend the Mass of Resurrection at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 114 King St. (at Magnolia), Larkspur on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 11:00 am.
