James Sunao Mishima
11/26/1931 - 06/09/2024
James Sunao Mishima, aged 92, passed away on June 9, 2024, in Palm Springs, CA. Born on November 26, 1931, James spent his early years in Hawaii before relocating to San Francisco and finally settling in Palm Springs. He graduated from McKinley High School and after his military service in the United States Navy, he furthered his education at the University of Hawaii, earning his degree in 1953.
He had a profound appreciation for the arts. He was an avid collector of art pieces and, because he loved movies, also collected DVDs. James owned an extensive library of books, reflecting his passion for reading.
James is survived by his brother, Frank Mishima.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral service.

I was saddened to hear of James passing. I have known him for many years when he was living in San Francisco. I remember the good times with our friends Toshi and Artie who have also passed. I´m hoping they will see each other again.

My brother Fred Schwartz was James roommate both in Hawaii as well as San Francisco. I met James at both places. Fred is now living in Phoenix, AZ in a independent living facility. Fred & James remained friends after James moved to Palm Springs where Fred was then living. If for some reason you need to get a hold of Fred the best way is through me (Nancy Wirtanen) sister of Fred's. Our deepest condolences goes out to you Frank.

I'm not sure if this was the James I knew 50 years ago in Hawaii, but I suspect so. I also knew James in San Francisco, but it has been some years since I saw him last. If his brother, Frank, would like to talk, i can be reached at [email protected]
