Jeremy Merrill Obituary
Of Larkspur, California, died June 6, 2013. Born in San Mateo in 1932, he was a 3rd generation Californian. At the age of eighteen he was chosen by Pierre Monteux to join the San Francisco Symphony Horn section. He was a member of the SFSO for 40 years, and a 25 year member of the SF Opera orchestra: his great love was opera.
He was an avid sailor; built 3 sailboats, loved gunkholing the Delta waters and sailing his Cal 20 single handed in open waters and strong winds. He backpacked, bicycled, studied art, literature and Japanese. He approached all life with great wit and enthusiasm. He valued a stable home life, achieved by 55 years on the Larkspur hillside.
Preceded in death by his son David, survived by wife Diane, daughters Barbara and Rebecca, grandsons Flint and Stinson Merrill-Gehrke, brother Peter and many nieces and nephews.
Please join us in Celebrating his Life Tuesday June 18, 4:30 to 7pm at the Bay View Boat Club, 489 Terry Francois Blvd. San Francisco.
