Thank you to everyone who took the time to write such heartfelt tributes to our dad. To be retired from the SFFD for 37 years and still be remembered and appreciated as a great boss and fire fighter is an amazing thing! Thank you to the many family members (O'Leary and Keohane cousins), friends (St. Paul's, Sacred Heart, Saint Anne's, Presentation, SFUSD, Seattle contingent, CYO, SVDP and Alma Via) and his fellow fire fighters (the boys) who came to the memorial mass and the celebration lunch at the Irish Cultural Center. 150 of you helped us send Dad off in fine style

I worked with Jerry at Engine 5 in the late 60s. It was a great time to be a Fireman. We had fires every day and I learned a lot in a short period of time thanks in part to the knowledge and dedication of Jerry. He was a great boss who always looked out for his men. He will be missed by all who knew him. RIP Jerry.

I first met Jerry when I was assigned to either Engine 1 or Truck 13 on Drumm Street back in 1965. A real nice guy.

Later on I was able to work with him at Engine 25 for several years. We loved him at 25 Engine.

He was a great boss at the firehouse and at the fires. He knew his firefighting, and he was an excellent leader. A hard worker the city got a good one when they got him.

Your Dad, your grandfather was a pleasure to work with. He is a special person.

Thanks for all the good times Jerry.

I have a lot of fond memories growing up around Jerry and Bev. Our families were very close and we had many good times together. After moving from the City we kind of lost touch, and did not have as much communication. My Mom and I went to see him a couple of years ago, and although he did not recognize us we still had a couple of good conversations. Donna, Laurie and Janet: Know that our thoughts and prayers our with you and your families, and know that your Dad and Mom are back together again.

I worked with Jerry when he was the Lt at Engine 5. He was a good firefighter and a good boss and a pretty funny guy as well. He never asked for respect you just gave it to him because he earned it.

Jerry was a great guy. I worked with him at station 5 in the late sixties when they were burning down the western addition. He was the Lieutenant of the Engine and I was the Captain of the truck. We will miss him Joe Scannell Sr.

I worked with Jerry at Engine 25, home of the Wharf Rats. He came out to the Lost Battalion from Downtown in the late 70's. Took about a day to win our respect and love for a great guy and an excellent officer. Our fond feelings and respect for him as an officer and a man never diminished.
