Jim Dragon Obituary

Jim Dragon
July 10, 1951 - April 15, 2021
Jim Dragon, 69, died suddenly of a heart attack at home on Thursday April 15th in the arms of his wife and with his children present.
Jim was born at St Joseph's Hospital, San Francisco. Along with his childhood best friend, Bob Lewis, he attended Douglass Elementary, James Lick Middle and Mission High School. Jim & Bob also served in the US Navy and later they attended Carpenters Trade School.
Jim was a lifelong resident of San Francisco and member of Holy Name, Most Holy Redeemer and St Finn Barr's Catholic Churches.

He is survived by his adoring wife, Cynthia of 44 years, his beloved children, daughter Danielle (Patrick), three sons TJ, Derick (Sarah), Cody (Michelle) and niece Jackie Calhoun (Romaldo), nephew Jeremy (Cryssa), sisters-in-law Candice Calhoun (Bob), Wanda D, and brother-in-law Richard Calhoun plus 3 cats.
Jim was an avid fisherman, boater, camper, golfer, archer, traveler, reader of science fiction and a great animal lover. He was kind, gentle and would do anything for anyone with children and friends at the top of his list - he would give you the shirt off of his back and sometimes did. He was a frequent blood donor, volunteered with Girl Scouts, was a Boy Scout leader, US Coast Guard Auxiliarist and volunteered with his church St Finn Barr's and a member in good standing of the San Francisco Archdiocese Catholic Scouting Committee. Jim was a foster parent to over 100 drug addicted babies as well as an adoptive parent and a strong member of Foster Parents United.
Jim retired from SFUSD Carpentry and was famous for his chili fests. He greatly missed his coworkers there. Not a tech person, Jim loved his paper - paperback books, newspapers, currency.
One of his outstanding gifts was his ability to make and maintain forever friendships - always helping when needed.
He built anything his wife asked for - their house was his Taj Mahal to her. Recently he added a new kitchen and three decks. He eagerly followed her on
many amazing adventures. Cynthia had begun writing a true romance novel about him. His handsome looks, beautiful voice, gentle and caring spirit. He thought she was perfect.
A Memorial Mass will be Monday, May 10, 11AM, St Finn Barr's, 415 Edna St, San Francisco. There will be a private family burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Jim's 70th Birthday Celebration of Life, Saturday, July 10th, time/place TBD
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, TN.

A few great people become famous over time, but most great people are only known to those they serve and those they love, and to God. JIm is one of those who will always be remembered with kindest thoughts.

So sorry to hear about Jim’s passing. He was a lovely, kind man, always smiling. I met him through our daughters’ activities and later when he would show up at my school on work assignments. He always greeted me with a big smile. Love to Cynthia and the rest of the family.
