John Ahern Obituary

John Joseph Ahern, Jr. John J. "Jack" Ahern died peacefully January 22, 2007. He was 81. Jack was born in San Francisco, December 2, 1925 to John J. and Margaret B. Ahern. He grew up in Berkeley and graduated St. Mary's High School. After graduating from the University of Santa Clara, he married Norma Marie Tannahill on May 7, 1949. They had two daughters, Margaret M. Ahern and Sharon E. Ahern. Jack was a partner in the accounting firm of Rooney, Ida, Nolt and Ahern (RINA). He was active in the East Bay Chapter of the CPA Society (past president) as well as in numerous religious and charitable organizations. He was a member of the board of Catholic Charities of the East Bay and Mercy Retirement & Care Center. He also participated in the Serra Club of Oakland (past president and past district governor) and was a member of the Order of Malta. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and playing golf at Sequoyah Country Club. Jack is survived by his wife, Norma Ahern of Oakland and daughters, Margaret Ahern of Santa Rosa and Sharon Ahern of Walnut Creek. The family would like to thank Pathways Hospice for its generous care and support preceding his passing. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 27th at Corpus Christi Church, 322 St. James Dr., Piedmont, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to FACE, 3014 Lakeshore Ave., Oakland, CA 94610; Mercy Retirement & Care Center, 3431 Foothill Blvd., Oakland, CA 94601; or Catholic Charities of the East Bay, 433 Jefferson St., Oakland, CA 94607. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Grant Miller John Cox Mortuary, (510) 451-6434.

Dear Mrs. Ahern, Margaret and Sharon; please accept my sympathy for your loss of your husband and father. You all have been, and will continue to be, in my thoughts and prayers. Please know that I will be thinking and praying for you and Mr. Ahern in a special way on Saturday during his Mass and funeral service. I hope that God will bless you all with the comfort of knowing that Mr. Ahern is at peace with God.He is lovingly watching over you and you will see him again!
