John Coffey Obituary

John "Sean" Coffey
06/17/1935 - 09/25/2025
Sean passed peacefully from this life on September 25, 2025, to join his beloved wife, Kathleen. Born in Castleisland, Co. Kerry, Ireland to John and Mary Ellen Coffey. He proudly served in the U.S. Army before enjoying a successful career as an underwriter for Metropolitan Life where he made many lifelong friends. He was an active member of St. Gabriel's Parish, where he raised his family, and most recently St. Peter's of Pacifica Parish.
Sean will be deeply missed and affectionately remembered as the loving and supportive father of John (Joan), Mary Laffey, Kevin & Michael (Sarah); treasured "Pops" to his grandchildren Theresa & Sean, Colin (Chantel), Bryan Laffey and their father Noel, Joel, Katie & Keegan. Dear brother to the late Kit (Michael) Doyle, the late Maureen (Michael) Cavan, Pat (Julie) Coffey, the late Bridie (Michéal) O'Brien, the late Liam (Mary) Coffey and the late Peg (Michael) O'Donnell; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who he adored. Sean was always happy to offer a helping hand whenever he could, whether it be by coaching soccer, volunteering on various school boards, being a Eucharistic Minister, volunteering at St. Ignatius' bingo, volunteering at various food banks or by donating blood. He loved sports; Irish Football (a proud past president of the Kerry Club), soccer (Manchester United in particular), handball, walking and golf. He was a member of the United Irish Cultural Center and the Young Men's Institute. Toward the end of his life, you would often find him on his deck admiring the view of the mountains and soaking up the sun. Those who loved him will never forget his kindness, generous and warm spirit, and his compassion for others.
Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3rd at St. Peter's Church in Pacifica for viewing. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am followed by Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations preferred to San Francisco Foster Youth Fund.
