Gary Fuller Obituary

Gary Fuller, age 83 of Mt. Pleasant passed away at McLaren Greater Lansing on Tuesday, March 3, 2026. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions in Gary's honor may be made to the Fuller Endowed Scholarship at Central Michigan University. For a full obituary listing, please visit www.ClarkFuneralChapel.com. Gary was born in San Francisco, CA on April 1, 1942 to parents George W. and Jane (Hewlett) Fuller. After completing his undergraduate studies at Stanford University in California, he earned his BPhil at Oxford University. Gary eventually moved to Mt. Pleasant, MI where he earned his PhD while teaching Philosophy at Central Michigan University. He established the Fuller Endowed Scholarship in 2014. Gary was a passionate classical pianist. In his free time, he was an avid cross country skier, and also enjoyed cycling and running. Gary was beloved by all who were privileged to know him, he always made people laugh. Gary will be deeply missed. Gary is survived by his siblings, Lina L. Crane of Palo Alto, CA, Kit Fuller of Los Angeles, CA, Jefferson H. Fuller of Dallas, TX, Parmer (Narcissa) Fuller of Los Angeles, CA, Brian (Michelle) Fuller of Washington, NC, and Kirk Fuller of Ukiah, CA; nieces Cathy (Andrew) Moley, Hudson Fuller (Paul Mosquin), and Lili Fuller (Joe Sofranko); nephew Whitfield Crane; great nieces Caroline, Kate, Claire, Zoe; and great nephews Ian, Eric and Soren; as well as many close friends and colleagues. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, George Fuller and Jane Gillespie.

I had the privilege of having Dr. Fuller as my Moral Problems professor at Central Michigan University. His legacy will live on through the many students he impacted and challenged to see the world in new and thoughtful ways. I will always remember his mannerisms and the genuine care he showed for his students.

I am honored to have known Gary. I met him through my father, who was a friend of his. But he never treated me as merely a friend´s son but always as a person and friend in my own right.
Gary was the kind of person who was genuinely interested in other people and, when speaking with you, gave you one hundred percent of his attention. That is a rare quality, I think, and one that I will deeply miss, as I will miss him.

I was not privileged to have a class with Gary, but I spoke with him many times, and I very much looked up to him. As a student at Central Michigan University, I was awarded the Fuller Endowed Scholarship. I am forever grateful to him for his great contribution to my education.
