John Sherman Obituary

John Russell Sherman

February 19, 1943 - December 21, 2016

John Russell Sherman passed peacefully in his sleep on December 21, 2016. His suitcase was packed excited to spend Christmas with his daughters in Portland, instead he had a different journey ahead. A Superman father, beloved coach, best friend and loyal family man; Russ will be dearly missed. He is survived by his brothers Doug and Rod, daughters Elisabeth and Lindsey, their mom, Ginny, stepson Ross, and his mom, Donna, and son-in-law Jason Killpack.
Born February 19, 1943 in San Diego to Evelyn and John Sherman, Russ and his two brothers grew up in Pasadena. He attended John Muir High School and USC, graduating in 1964 as a business major. Some of his best times were spent cheering on his brother Rod playing football for USC and the Raiders. In 1975 he married Ginny raising two daughters, Elisabeth and Lindsey, in Moraga. In 1996 he married Donna and lived in Happy Valley with stepson Ross Dunlap.
Russ had a successful commercial real estate career as a tenacious and charismatic broker with Coldwell Banker, Cushman & Wakefield and Cornish & Carey. Russ was mischievous and always full of practical jokes. He made everyone laugh and smile. He loved running, listening to live music and "never leaving the beach" at Lake Tahoe and Stinson Beach. A fun-loving basketball, soccer and softball coach, he gave his daughters a strong foundation in life and touched the lives of Lamorinda families. We will all remember Russ for his laugh that lit up the world and his smile will live in our hearts forever.
Memorial is Sunday, January 22nd at 1:00 p.m. at Hacienda de las Flores, 2100 Donald Drive, Moraga, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Make a Wish Foundation.

JB and I are so sorry to hear of our friend Russ' passing. We send our love and deepest sympathies to all he called family and friends. He did light up a room with his smile and his laughter. I will miss his smile, his laughter and his big bear hugs. -Mardi Potts

My condolences to Liz, Lindsey and families. I'll never forget Russ's loud bellowing laugh. It's as clear as day even though it's been 20 years since I've last seen him in person. I remember Mr Sherman as being an awesome dad to Liz and Lindsey. I have many great memories at the Moraga house as well as a few trips up to Tahoe with the family. Thanks for the memories!
