John Webb Obituary

John Joseph Webb
September 11, 1954 - January 2, 2024
John Joseph Webb, born September 11, 1954, a native San Franciscan and longtime resident of Burlingame, passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2024.
The oldest of five siblings, John had a protective nature and always tried to look out for those who needed it. He strived to resolve conflicts in the way that was most fair to everyone, unafraid to make sacrifices if that was what was required to achieve this goal. An extension of his desire to be fair and good, John spent his career in law enforcement, with his final 25 years of service at San Francisco Police Department's Airport Bureau. He was remembered at SFO for his good nature, sense of humor, and genuine friendliness to everyone he met. He made every employee at every airline feel like they mattered.
John lived a fulfilled life marked by many passions, including his love for landscaping, a skill he would use to transform his backyard into a hidden oasis, filled with fruit-bearing trees, tropical plants, and a swimming pool where he loved to have guests and host parties. He was also an avid abalone diver, and would often spend time up the Northern California coast diving in pursuit of the Jewel of the Sea.
A lifelong athlete, John spent his life surrounded one way or another with sports. Whether it was watching the Giants, 49ers, or Warriors on TV, playing baseball at St. Ignatius, rugby for the mighty Castaway Rugby Club, soccer with the Overlords, or swimming in the San Francisco Bay, John always maintained an active lifestyle. Even when his playing days were over, he spent his time on the sidelines coaching his children's various sports teams. As a coach, he put emphasis on imparting life lessons and discipline while nurturing the friendships and camaraderie that he knew could only be found amongst teammates.
John loved nothing more than being surrounded by his friends, some new, some of whom date back to his days in the schoolyard at St. Gabe's or St. Ignatius, and some from all points in between. The family would like to honor and thank his friends who surrounded him with love, support, and friendship throughout his life.
John is survived by his children, John (Kaitlin) and Elizabeth; his girlfriend, Kathy Michalski; his siblings, Vicki, Colleen (Peter Fatooh), and Dennis (Annette); his uncle, Richard (Suzanne); cousins, Bob, Scott (Wendy), Kent (Anna), Shon (Vivan), and Amber (Josh Hernandez); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins that made up a wonderful extended family whom he cherished. He was preceded in death by his wife, Denise (2013); his parents, John (2010) and Beverly (2022); and his brother, Kevin (2020).
Friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 from 4-8 p.m., and attend a Vigil at 6 p.m., at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel Church, 2559 40th Ave., San Francisco.

John, from our days at St. Gabe´s where sometimes you´d cross 41st Avenue from the Auditorium to bring me aboard whenever you and your Dad (another SFPD Legend) were short-handed setting up for Wednesday´s Bingo (fun job because of you and "Mr. Webb"-and good too!) through S.I.and always giving you extra roast beef on your herbs, sandwich and pack and the potato salad into the half pint containers for you!)! and being a fellow Civil Servant/cop and now you are yet another good man taken much to soon. My condolences and good thoughts to all the Webb´s and John´s extended family and many lifelong friends. John will never be forgotten. Rest easy, and Godspeed.

Dear Jack and Lisa,
Our whole family is so sad at your dad's passing. He was always larger than life-it's hard to believe he's gone to be with your mom.
I spent so much time with him back in the days of the Swedes. We have such good memories!
We will miss your dad as we do your mom and pray that God will give you peace.

Dear Kathy and Webb Family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you.
John was a true, good old St. Gab's friend and will be remembered fondly.
One of my favorite memories was at the river. The Webb's
and Ferringno's had a (MIXED!!) 8th grade graduation party
for us. That is and will remain one of the best parties I've been to.
I will always remember John' s smiling face while up on the Yuba.
I pray for peace and patience during your very difficult
healing process.
Rest in peace my friend,
Stacy (Sullivan) & John Gallagher

He was a genuine guy. His passion for a more beautiful Burlingame was exhibited in his involvement in the early formation of the Burlingame Voice, a local newsletter where he wrote articles regarding the great potential of Burlingame´s bay front. He will be missed.

Big John Webb , with a wry sense of humor. Just the guy you wanted going to a 415 in the cab lot, a bunch of drunks on the aircraft, or responding to a silent alarm at the Bank of America. Great guy, helluva officer. Deserved more time to enjoy his retirement. God bless him
