Joseph Murray Obituary

Joseph Anthony Murray January 12, 1954 - May 8, 2009 Joe was a second generation San Franciscan of Irish heritage. As a boy, he was one of the fearless leaders of The Park: building massive forts, playing Army, Kick the Can, Heats, and climbing trees. Eagle's Nest was a favorite perch from where he could see the Pacific Ocean. Joe graduated from Lincoln High School in 1972. He also attended the horticultural program at City College. Joe was a gardener for the City of San Francisco, at Golden Gate Park, for many years. He later opened his own landscaping and tree trimming business. Joe is survived by his beloved and loving partner Ingrid; his prized boys - son, Garret; stepson, Eric; his precious princess, Michella Tara; his treasured mother, Patricia; his siblings John (Dori), Patrick, Stephen (Flora) and Sr. Cathy. He had many wonderful nieces and nephews: Sean, Maurine, Christopher, Alexander, Minerva and Nathaniel, and grandnieces Samantha, Caitlin and Molly. He had a close bond with cousin Barry. His father John and brother Brian went before him. Joe had many obstacles to face in his life and he faced them with courage. We are very grateful to his many friends who have been treasures to him through the years and for the support of all the friends of Bill and Lois who were an inspiration to him. There will be a vigil service, Sunday, May 17 at 7pm at Duggan's Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. There will be a mass of the Resurrection on Monday, May 18, at 10 am at St. Agnes Church, 1025 Masonic Ave., San Francisco.

Thanks, Joe, for your knowledge and your help over the years. You were also very helpful to my parents whenever they needed your assistance.
Rest in peace.

Joe became a friend of mine when he placed his orders at Bode Concrete. I looked forward to talking to Joe as he was placing an order with us. To me Joe was one of the kindest souls I've ever met and cared about others.

Joe was surely "King of The Park". although he was known as the toughest guy I ever knew, he never laid a hand on me. My fondest memory was when I was walking in West Portal and 2 punks were harassing me. I see Joe driving by in his truck and yell to him "Hey, Joe". He stops, backs up, and the 2 punks flee.
