JULIAN WEINBERG

Dr. Julian Arthur Weinberg
A psychiatrist who worked in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 40 years, died at his Mill Valley home on September 20, 2012. He was 79.
Art was passionate about everything that interested him and almost everything interested him. He was a fencer, artist, woodworker, scholar, amateur astronomer, photographer, marathon runner, music lover, traveler, backpacker, avid reader, birder, sailor, and aficionado of chocolate and Panama hats. Above all, he was a born teacher and enjoyed sharing his eclectic knowledge. Professionally Dr. Weinberg was a mentor, role model and friend. He could light up a room with his smile and clear a room with his bark.
Arthur was born in Chicago on August 6, 1933 to Henry and Birdie Weinberg. In 1949 the family moved to San Francisco where he graduated from Lowell High School in 1951. Arthur received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1955 and his medical degree from the University of California Medical School in San Francisco in 1959. After completing his residency in psychiatry, he served in the Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He spent most of his professional career in public service at San Francisco General Hospital, Highland Hospital in Oakland and John George Pavilion in San Leandro.
He is survived by his wife Sandra, sons Mark and his wife Chunxia, Joshua, and Eric, brother Stewart and his wife Donna, and nephews Brian, Daniel, Michael, and Joel.
Arthur's family thanks everyone who gave their love and support during the last year, and requests that those wishing to honor his memory make donations in Arthur's name to prostate cancer research, Audubon Society or the charity of their choice, as long as it doesn't include the RNC.
