Dear Ken,

Is it too late to ask for my half of our comic book collection back? I've told my son about our amazing library (well over 1500, right?) and he wants to read them. I wouldn't mind rereading a few myself right about now.

Mrs. Cameron – Thank you for all the years you welcomed me into your home. You were good neighbors. My very best to you and Lee.

Dear old Ken --

I can see you now as we knew each other in second grade, both proud and precocious readers. You were crazy for Hugh Lofting and Edgar Rice Burroughs and I tried to get you excited about Edward Eager. We both loved dinosaurs and dinosaur stories. Later on, we made short films together, and commented, with admirable pre-teen professionalism, on each other's work. You were so smart and original.

I saw you last in San Francisco -- it must be almost 20 years now. I remember good lunches at Sam's and the Hoffman House, with our friends Kevin Cawley and Rick Srams. I hope the last few years were good ones for you, and I am very sorry that they have ended so prematurely.

I send my love and sympathy to Mrs. Cameron, somebody I remember well and fondly, and also to Lee. I'll never forget you.
