Leonard Scott Obituary

Leonard M. Scott

Passed away peacefully at home, after a valiant fight, on December 2, 2016, at the age of 86 surrounded by his children. Adored and adoring husband of the late Rita Saponati Scott and loving father of Michael (Karen), Theodore (Lisa Perata), Maryann (Les Nakae) and Catherine; beloved grandfather to Andrea Scott, Oliver Freij, Jessica Baker (Elliott), Melissa Scott and Julia Freij and great-grandfather to little Rita Baker. Fond brother-in-law to Marina Balestreri, Lorraine Scott and Claudia Scott and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by his beloved grandparents Jessie and Tillie Shaw, who raised him; his mother, Rose Fulton; his brothers, William and Eugene; sister, Marian Slay, sister-in-law Anita Terry, and niece, Marina Terry.

Our dad, who never knew his own father, was the ultimate family man. The love he held for our mother was eternal. Junior high sweethearts, together they lovingly and happily raised their family and cherished their Westlake home, where he lived for the last 60 years. In addition to family, he loved sports, dogs, music, movies and books. He played basketball at Balboa High in the 1940s, coached his sons' OLM basketball and baseball teams in the 60s, and throughout his life followed his and our mom's beloved Niners. He was a talented machinist and carpenter and it seemed he could fix anything. He loved shooting hoops in the yard with his boys and providing life lessons to all four of us. Hobbies included playing golf with his buddies, making beautiful wooden furniture, and later in life daily walks visiting our mother's grave and on the seawall above Pacifica Beach.

Special thanks go to our sister, Maryann, who brought him home to his refuge and happy place, and who devoted the last two plus years to making sure our father had the best care, medical treatment and food possible. Special thanks also to his devoted caregivers, Jun Japinan and Alfie Santos.

Our thought and prayers are with the entire Scott family. Having lost my father recently hit home about how important family and friends are at this time. Keeping his memory alive through stories and etc. all year long is the best way I found to do that. Again, I am sorry for your loss and know that I am here if you need me.

You are in my thoughts, and I just wish I could be there with you. Your dad reaped what he sowed: wonderful, caring children. Special shout-out to Maryann who made such a difference in his last few years. Much love, Anne
