Leonard Thompson Obituary

THOMPSON, Leonard Joseph - Passed away at home on the morning of February 26th at the age of 74. He is survived by his beloved wife Bernadette; children, Lenette, David and Bernadette; grandchildren, Nicole, Travis, Samantha and Sierra; three children from a previous marriage, Denise, Dan and Jerry; grandchildren, Danielle, and Isabela; twin brother, Lawrence (Mary); numerous cousins, relatives as well as lifelong friends. A fourth-generation San Franciscan, he loved to share the nuances of his beautiful city with his family and friends. He spent most of his life in the Sunnyside area of SF, and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1949. He served in the US Navy, stationed in Honolulu, and joined Thompson Auto Parts, the family business upon his return. He became a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 6 and retired in 1992. Leonard was proud to claim the title of winner of the first ever SF Fog Calling Contest in 1983. Leonard was an avid outdoorsman. Having purchased his first camera from Ansel Adams while working at Yosemite National Park in his youth he remained an avid photographer. He was a longtime member of the Alpineer Ski Club and Foppianos. Leonard enjoyed sailing, skiing and hiking and taught his family a love for the same. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Finn Barr Church, Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Kaiser Hospice Services, 4131 Geary Blvd., 3rd Floor, SF, CA 94118, or to the Monastery of Perpetual Adoration, 771 Ashbury St, SF CA 94117.
