Leonie Patrick Obituary

Leonie C. Patrick Passed away on March 8, 2010 at the age of 62, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Lee was born in Berkeley, CA on December 27, 1947. She was raised in San Francisco where she attended and graduated from Convent of the Sacred Heart and the University of San Francisco. In 1978, Lee, her husband and their three children moved to a 90 acre ranch in Petaluma. The children, two sons and a daughter, were raised there, and Lee owned and operated her successful dog training and boarding facility there as well. From childhood, Lee had a passion for and innate knowledge of how to work with dogs, which led her to become a highly regarded professional dog (and owner!) trainer. In addition, she was a very successful competitor in national and international dog sports. Lee had a great love of nature which inspired her to enjoy skiing, hiking, biking, and equestrian sports. She enjoyed these activities with her loving partner who survives her, Sue Facchinello. She is also survived by her loving children, George Pulis of Sonoma, Stephanie Pulis and Patrick Pulis of San Francisco, and by her sister, Mary Ingerron and brother, Barry Patrick, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lee will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Donations may be made to Memorial Hospice, 821 Mendocino Avenue, Santa Rosa, CA 95401. Arrangements under the care of Santa Rosa Mortuary Eggen and Lance Chapel. 707-545-3747

Lee and I first met while working on our physical education teaching credential at San Francisco State University during the early 70's. Lee, Roberta Lighty and bonded and helped each other struggle through the curriculum. While Roberta was the dancer in the group, Lee and I were constantly reminded to "point our toes". We were hopeless! But, give Lee a tennis ball and look out! We shared hikes, dinners, stories about her joy in helping to raise Mary, but most of all, we shared laughter. Lee's laughter was infectious. Throughout the past 40 plus years there were many gaps in our communications as Lee raised a family and became famous within the dog training community. When we talked on the phone and/or saw each other, it was as if no time had passed. She gave me friendship; supported me; listened; cared and gave unconditional love. I will never forget Roberta, Lee, and I spending time together in Tahoe. We talked about the passing years and called ourselves the Golden Girls. Such a strong, vibrant spirit can never be dissolved. I will always hear her laughter and know that she is still with us.

Lee was a dear, sweet, kind, and loving person. She helped me through my late sister's final days and became a friend and sister through our mutual grief. My heart aches for Lee's family, especially her beloved Sue. My condolences and much love to all of you.
