Lucille Clumeck Obituary

Lucille Frank Clumeck A life-long San Franciscan, born January 27, 1913, died peacefully in her sleep on April 3, 2008. 95 years of a truly charmed life. Born while on a family trip to Milwaukee to Arthur and Henrietta (Etta) Frank, Lucille was the sister of Bernice (Mrs. Herbert) Friend and Elinor (Mrs. Clifford) Figel. She was the beloved mother of Arthur (Skip) Clumeck and Lynne M. Clumeck, loving mother-in-law of Jette L. Clumeck; grandmother of Michyael S. Clumeck, Gabrielle Morgan, Josh Morgan, Cassandra Annemarie (Amie) Carl, Anthony A. Clumeck and Paul, Gregory and Jeffrey Wright; adoring and adored great-grandmother of 12. Lucille, known to one and all as "Mame" was the granddaughter of B.U. and Fannie Steinman. Her grandfather was the mayor of Sacramento in in 1880 when "Mame's" mother was born, and as a young man served as Leland Stanford's Page in the senate. Mame had in her possession her grandparent's unused tickets to see Enrico Caruso perform at the S.F. Opera House on the evening of April 18, 1906, a performance that for obvious reasons never took place as a "shook-up" and terrified Caruso fled a ruined and burning San Francisco vowing never to return. Lucille's father Arthur Frank and his brothers backed youngest brother Lawrence L. Frank in starting Van De Kamp's Dutch Bakeries in Los Angeles and in 1938 opened Lawry's The Prime Rib on La Cienega Blvd. Later adding Lawry's Seasoned salt and salad dressings which was later sold to Lipton, a division of Unilever Corp. Today Lawry's still thrives along with Lawry's restaurants in Chicago, Dallas, and six other locations around the world. Lucille was beautiful, talented, and loved and admired by all. She was married to her beloved husband Lionel M. Clumeck of Singapore for 43 years and since his passing in 1977 didn't want anyone in her life except her family and fabulous friends. "Mame" was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, accomplished artist, talented business woman, trusted confidant and loving and caring friend. She was loved by so many and will be missed by all. Plans for a private family service are pending. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the charity of your choice in Lucille's memory is preferred.

Mame was a remarkable woman whose wit, candor and engaging personality will not be forgotten by those of us lucky enough to know her. Her interest and attention to contemporary politics in particular always fascinated me. She was a strong woman who saw the breadth of a century.
Lynne and Skip and their families should look back fondly at the good times they shared with her. I willl miss her.???

We always viewed my aunt Lucille as one of the great "characters" of the Clumeck family, and enjoyed her indomitable spirit and humor. Elizabeth remembers her high heels and exquisite dressing up during the day and in the kitchen! She graciously made us welcome in her home when we visited and stayed overnight with her in S.F. We remember her fondly. Blessings to all family, Michael and Elizabeth Clumeck.

Mame Clumeck was a powerful women with a generous heart who filled our minds with ambition when our self-esteem was low. I am glad to have met her. I hope to live up to Mame's great expectations of success. May her family accept all my best wishes.

Best regards,

Thomas Chi
