Luigia Crotti Obituary

Luigia (Gina) Orsola Foppoli Crotti March 23, 1921 - Aug. 24, 2009 Mom entered eternal life in Roseville, CA, surrounded by many of her nine children: Gabriel (Patricia Bellini), Sr. Rachel (Salesian Sisters), Mario (Mary Ann Follan), Catherine Soldavini (Larry), Richard-Ted (Theresa Flaherty), Frank (Theodora Ayars), Stephanie Standifer (Guy), Gus (Linda Mercurio) and Marianne Davis (Tony). Mom is survived by her sisters-in-law Anna Fallati and Bettina Foppoli and her grandchildren: Steven, Frank, Giovanni, Bartolo, Amy, Theo, Giancarlo, Dominic and Ava Crotti, Brooke and Raquel Standifer, Chris and Emily Davis, Gina Crotti Faria and a great- grandson, expected in early September, 2009. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bartolo (2005) to whom she was married for nearly 60 years, her parents Stefano and Domenica Foppoli, her brothers Pietro, Antonio and Albino, her sister-in-law, Maria Crotti and brothers-in-law Theodore Fallati and Egidio Crotti. Though she was under hospice care for a year, Mom did not want her cancer to define her long rich life. Her simple presence was a gift to all who knew her. Mom was both strengthened and comforted by her Catholic faith and enriched by her large family and many wonderful friends. Mom lived in Mazzo di Valtellina (Sondrio), Italy, and in her youth she was president and active member of Catholic Action. She valued her membership in the Salesian family throughout her life. In 1953 she bravely set out for America with five young children to join her husband in California. Mom lived a rich and fulfilled life dedicated to faith, family and friends. She was a devoted member of the Italian Catholic Federation for many years. Mom attended Mass and received the Eucharist daily. She was a member of several parishes: Ss. Peter and Paul, St. Paul and St. Elizabeth in San Francisco and St. Rose and St. Clare in Roseville. We thank you, mom, for your many joyful sacrifices, your love and your eloquent example. All are invited to the Visitation on Monday, August 31st, 2009, 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert Street, San Francisco. The final Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Tuesday, September 1st, at 10:00 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Salesian Sisters, Friends of Don Bosco Scholarship Fund, 6019 Buena Vista St., San Antonio, TX 78237.

Dear Crotti family,

I remember your lovely mother from my childhood in San Francisco. My parents spoke fondly of both your parents and how your mother helped my mother as she was a first-time mother all alone in that big city.

I also remember staying with your family on a summer vacation when my cousin Shirley went to visit Rachel, as they had been schoolmates so long ago. I can still remember the great meals she cooked for us when we were there.

I am so sorry for your loss. May your memories of your loving mother carry you through this time.

My mother (Esther) had passed away unexpectedly this July.

May the peace of God be with all of you,

Aida Manzano-Jaus
