Luke Philpott

Went home to be with the Lord on August 23, 2018 at the age of 91, after a battle with cancer. A native of Newmarket, County Cork, Ireland born in 1927. Devoted husband of 45 years to Beasy (Bridget) Philpott (Crotty). After her passing in 2000, she remained the love of his life. Cherished father of Tim Philpott; loving father-in-law of Maria Luisa Philpott (Sosa). Beloved grandfather of Matthew, Ryan and Luke Philpott. His devoted grandsons were his pride and joy and he was a part of every special event in their lives.
Beloved brother of Sean (Peg) Philpott (deceased), Sheila (Ed) Dikun, Eileen (Auntie Ted) Philpott, Diarmuid (Mary Anne) Philpott, David (Elizabeth) Philpott; cherished uncle of Chris (Tina) Butler, Eileen (Kevin) Capitolo, Colleen (Steve) Payne, Kevin (Carol) Philpott, Sean (Joan) Philpott, Niall Philpott (deceased), Deidre (Steve) Cloherty, Gerald (Martha) Dikun, Don (Jill) Dikun, Teresa (Ivan) Sequiera, Michael (Martha) Philpott, Brian (Annemarie) Philpott, John (Christine) Philpott, David (Karen) Philpott, Stephen (Carrie) Philpott. Dear cousin of Joan Riordan. Beloved Uncle Luke to his grand nieces and nephews Jennifer, John and Danielle Butler, Carolyn and Michael Capitolo; and dear cousins the Sammons. Greatly loved and honored by his daughter-in-law's family, the Sosas, Hupkes, Navarros and Rios who considered Luke like their own grandpa. Dear friend of the Dunleavy (Pat, Kathleen), Rosaia, Hayes (Tom), Moylan (Johnny), Flynn (Tom), and Brosnan (Pat) families. Dear friend of May Dunleavy (deceased).
Luke immigrated to America in 1949, and settled in San Francisco where he employed his skills as a baker. Drafted in 1950 into the US Army he served in Japan and Germany as a radioman. He loved America and proudly earned his US citizenship in 1955. A resident of South San Francisco for 63 years, he worked for 35 years as a foreman for Colonial and Oroweat Bakeries. He retired to work another 10 years in the South San Francisco School District at Alta Loma Middle School.
He loved his Irish heritage and was known for his golden voice, singing his favorite Irish ballads at family, work and civic occasions. A proud member of the United Irish Cultural Center and volunteer with the Second Harvest Food Bank. He and Beasy enjoyed many wonderful vacations spent at Whispering Pines Resort with family and friends.
He will be remembered for his love for his family and friends, a humble, honorable man, who always brought a smile and laughter to everyone he met.
Friends may visit Friday, September 7, 2018 from 4:00pm - 9:00pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Avenue, Daly City where a Vigil Service will be held at 7:00pm. A Funeral Service will be celebrated Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 10:00am at Church of the Highlands, 1900 Monterey Dr., San Bruno, CA.
