Marcelo Zavala Obituary

Marcelo Augusto Zavala passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025 at the age of 99. He was born in Rio Cuarto, Argentina, the youngest child of Julio and Andrea Zavala. Marcelo left Argentina in the early 1950's, for the United States, followed by his fiancée Evelyn Lancaster. They were married in Berkeley in 1956 where they also settled and raised three daughters.
Marc attended UC Berkeley and San Francisco State, earning a Masters Degree in International Business. In addition to working at Lowell High School for many years, Marc ran Alliance International, a wine importing business.
After losing his beloved wife Evelyn in 2017, Marc enjoyed an active life. Walking his Cocker Spaniel, Murphy, twice a day, listening to music and keeping current on world affairs.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Patricia (Thomas) Linder, Andrea (Daniel) Tachiera, and Annette Zavala; 4 grandchildren Juliana (Richmond) Hollen, Andrew (Kiera) Tachiera, Alex Martinez and Christian Tachiera; a great-grandson Callan Tachiera; and great-grandaughter Shea Hollen. He also leaves behind a large extended family in Argentina. A family service was held at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito, CA
