Margaret Dutton Obituary

Margaret "Marghi" Dutton Marghi Dutton died at age 93 on Feb 19th in her Broadmoor home. She was an accomplished trumpetist, actress, director and teacher. She was independent-outspoken about injustices. In the 50's she was fired for integrating the school plays she directed. She demonstrated for peace, the environment, and humanity; she was arrested 7 times. Her real job was activism. At 90 she walked across the GG Bridge to end the war and impeach Cheney. At 92 she was still leafleting with her activist friends in San Francisco. Lets celebrate her life on Apr. 11 3-8 pm at the Broadmoor Center, 501 87th St, Broadmoor, CA In her honor, activism, politics & food will be shared.

I was a drama student in Miss Dutton's class and was inspired by her creativity, and her commitment to stop injustice and racial inequality. I majored in Drama in college and taught Drama for 30 years and also ran a performing arts summer program at Willamette University, all because of my one year in her Drama class.

I met Marghi at the Center for World Music, where we shared our love for Balinese music and dance. Marghi and I then teamed up and led "Arts Impromptu" groups together. She was a passionate innovator who cared a lot about our world. May she rest in peace.

Dear Beth, Marghi was my inspiration throughout the 10 years I taught high school theater -- we met at a teachers for peace conference and through the Women's International League for Peace & Freedom. Personally, her clear-headed, no-nonsense attitude helped me so much every chance we had to share time together, especially at the ranch, what a peaceful place. She was the very first donor to my 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk in 2005 as I recovered from the disease. Her spirit will continue to inspire me the rest of my days. Our hearts are with you, Bonnie, Darrel & Marino

Dear Beth,
Marghi was my late husband, Peter's dear aunt. We were so proud of her as a strong, courageous and independent woman and a loving aunt. I will miss her very much. My deepest condolences.
Love, Hiroko Dutton
