Margaret McGregor Obituary

Margaret Lois McGregor (95) of San Leandro died peacefully at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula March 5, 2010. She is survived by her sons Richard residing in Charlotte, NC and Robert of Pebble Beach, California, their wives Jane & Sophie and by her grandchildren, Robb McGregor, London, UK, Elizabeth McGregor Vergidis of Cincinnati, Oh, Marsha McGregor of Los Angeles, California and Stephanie McGregor of Los Angeles, California as well as three great grandchildren: Dylan (3) Tyler, (18 mo) and Oliver (6). She was pre-deceased by Wallace, her husband of 66 years, who passed away in October of 2002 Margaret was born in Montesano, Washington July 13, 1914 and moved to California when she was a young girl. She attended Oakland Tech where she met Wallace. They resided in Oakland and San Leandro for the rest of their lives. Margaret was the most generous and unique of persons. Her wide range of friendships spanned generations and were an essential and important part of her life. She made everyone she met feel special and the center of her attention. She never forgot a birthday, special occasion or anniversary of family or friend and to that end Hallmark will suffer a dramatic decline in sales now that she is gone. Her gifts of her special chocolate chip cookies brightened many a home and college dorm over the course of the years as she always made time to bake for family and friends. She was the most selfless, modest and giving individual one could imagine; Always with a positive attitude and gracious word for all. As a family we are eternally grateful for her life lessons, generosity of spirit and loving nature. Faithful, intellectually curious and interested in books, news, life and people to the end, she will be missed but the legacy from her life lives on in all of us. She is now in heaven and we are sure, baking chocolate chip cookies for all the other Angels. There will be a Remembrance in her honor at her home: 2166 Bradhoff Ave. San Leandro, Saturday March 13 from 1-3:00pm. Donations in lieu of flowers to the One Sight Foundation in memory of Margaret would be appreciated: http://www.onesight.org Santos-Robinson Mortuary San Leandro 510-483-0123 Santos-robinson.com

The end of an era...gracious, selfless, dedicated and oh so bright-eyed. How proud she must have been of her loving family near and far. My thoughts are with all of you,

Grammy will leave us with a legacy of choosing kindness over indifference, generosity over selfishness, and awareness over ignorance. Her legacy will also live on in the way she so effortlessly looked at the best in others, no matter what the situation. And it will be Grammy’s selflessness that I will remember the most. She will live in our hearts and minds forever.

One of a kind .... Grammy will forever be in the hearts and minds of anyone who ever had the good fortune to meet her. I have been truly blessed to have had a grandmother as warm, gentle, caring, adoring and with a zest for life (let's not forget the cookies!) as Margaret. She will live on in my thoughts. Robb
