Margaret McMahon Obituary

Margaret Mary
McMahon

Margaret Mary "Peggy" McMahon passed peacefully at home on July 1, 2013 at the age of 89. Born November 3, 1923 to Julia and Paul Swanson in Weed, CA, Peggy attended St. Peter's High School in San Francisco and graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1945 where she met many life-long friends. She worked for forty years in hospitals and medical centers helping to bring children into the world. She loved her summer cottage in Sonoma where everyone was welcome. Margaret is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Eugene, and her five children, their spouses, and eleven grandchildren; Jeanne Marie (Alanna, Meghan); Rita & Lowry (Cristina, Kathryn, David); Richard & Eleanor (Julia, Liam); Katie & Rennie (Patrick); and Bob & Darres (Jack, Tatum, Peter); her loving brother-in-law William McCarthy and many nieces and nephews. Her sister (Betty) and brother (Paul) preceded her in death. A mass to celebrate her life will be held Monday July 8, St. Stephen's Church, 601 Eucalyptus Drive at 11:00am with internment at Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception will follow at Harding Park, Lakeview Terrace, Lake Merced at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Foundation. Peggy will be remembered fondly for her love of family, her bountiful home-cooked feasts, her warm and open heart, and kind words for all.

Dear McMahon Family,

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I met your mom many times while I was a student at St. Stephens. She was a lovely lady and always had a smile and gentle way even though she knew Bobby and I were going to get into some kind trouble later on that day. We actually performed some kind of blood brother ritual in your kitchen.....that we didn't tell your mom about! My mom passed this year as well....so I will pray for your mom as well. God Bless.

My prayers go out to her entire family at this time. Heaven has claimed another angel...I will miss her laugh, her generosity, and mostly her "hot plates" right out of the oven...She was a VERY special wife and mom to all of you and will be missed tremendously. God bless.
