Marianne Eberle Obituary

Marianne Eberle
December 12, 1938 – January 4, 2021
Marianne Eberle, 82, gracefully passed away from vascular dementia.
Marianne spent 58 amazing years married to the love of her life, the late Erich Eberle, until his passing in 2016 and is survived by her children, Christine Eberle Diaz (Phil), Susie Eberle Higgins, Richard Eberle (Ellen), beloved granddaughters Lindsey Higgins & Melanie Krulj (Nemanja) and treasured great grandchildren Scarlett & Lukas Krulj, Also survived by her beautiful sister Eva Hammerle and dear nephew Jochen Hammerle residing in Germany.

Marianne was born in Gleiwitz Germany to Christine Klevers. Soon after, her mother married Georg Johan Ullrich and as a baby was adopted by him. Marianne lived in Bergisch Gladbach until immigrating in 1958. She traveled alone at the age of 19 aboard the M.S. Berlin…reaching New York after an 11 day voyage. Next stop was San Francisco where she married her fiancée Erich 3 weeks later. She excelled at assimilating to her new life and proudly became a citizen of the United States of America on October 22, 1963.

Marianne was a decades long member and past President of the San Francisco Schwabishe Frauen Verein and the United German-American Societies of SF. Participating in Oktoberfest By the Bay was a yearly highlight and just one of the many ways that she promoted the German culture. In 1990 Marianne received the Federal Republic of Germany Friendship Award and was recognized by UGAS in 2011 for 20+ years of selfless work within the German American community.

Ahead of her time, she balanced being a devoted wife and mother of three with being a successful San Francisco business owner. Fully engaged with her children's education and activities she was active at Corpus Christi School, Immaculate Conception Academy and Archbishop Riordan High School. There was never a dull moment working side by side with Erich in their European style bakeries, Plate's Bakery and the Excelsior Bakery.

Family, service to others, and the value of tradition is her legacy, Marianne touched and enriched the lives of all those around her. With kindness and unending patience Marianne set the bar high on how to multitask under pressure while looking on the bright side of life. Music, a glass of bubbly and good conversation made for a nice relaxing time within her very full life. A wonderful hostess and cook Marianne made every holiday special with Christmas being truly magical. Gardening and crocheting were therapy and she did both very well.

Yearly group camping trips at the Anza Borrego Desert and Fallen Leaf Lake grew lifelong friendships and many precious memories including Richard and Ellen's engagement. Once retired, Marianne and Erich made road tripping across America in their RV an art form. So many great adventures…from sea to shining sea really happened and they loved every minute. From Alaska to Maine and everything in between they were living their best life!

Our family will be forever grateful to her guardian angels Bozica, Grace, Miguel, Allynson and Mario at Concord Royale Assisted Living. Thank you for taking such loving care of our sweet Marianne.

A private entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery Colma, Ca where she will rest in peace alongside her schatz Erich.
