Mark Slovensky

Beloved husband of Becky James-Slovensky and loving father to son and daughter, Scott and Brooke Slovensky, passed away suddenly March 27th while on a weekend trip with his family.
Mark was the treasured son of Edward and Luna Slovensky and cherished brother to Sonia Gomez and Tanya and Tamara Slovensky. Survived by his father and sisters, Mark was preceded in death by his mother.
Growing up in Lake Villa Illinois, he enjoyed ice skating, fishing and little league softball. He attended Antioch Community High School before moving to California when his parents relocated in 1973. Mark was a graduate of Redwood High School in Corte Madera in 1974 and held a BA from San Francisco State University Business School, class of 1980.
His entrepreneurial spirit inspired him to go into independent sales, open a pizza restaurant, design and sell jewelry and finally to work in real estate financing. Mark worked on commercial and residential real estate loans at Metropole Mortgage and was Senior Loan Agent for Commercial Loans at Pacific Mortgage Consultants, Inc.
In the fall of 1998 Mark met and fell in love with Becky James. They celebrated their wedding in Sausalito on March 31st 2000. When Scott came along, they began to remodel and expand their home. By the time Brooke was born on a Father's Day they were well along in work that resulted in a beautiful home that was always the stage for warm holiday celebrations.
A great outdoor enthusiast, Mark was well known in his neighborhood as a bicyclist. Races in which he competed included the "Bay to Breakers", the "Dipsea Race", and the triathlon, "Escape from Alcatraz". He really enjoyed taking Scott and Brooke up to Tahoe skiing. Kayaking was a longtime favorite activity and Mark often combined a trip with fishing; then coming home to cook up his catch and make pizzas for his many friends.
Gregarious, generous and brimming with a zest for living, Mark was constantly willing to lend a hand. He leaned into projects with tremendous energy. He played just as hard as he worked and many of us will long remember him as a fabulous host of some legendary parties.
Mark you are so loved. We will dearly miss you.
Friends and acquaintances are invited to a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4th, in the meadow at the Mount Tamalpais Mortuary, 2500 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael (415) 459-2500.
In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a college fund set up for Mark's children, "The Mark Slovensky Memorial Fund", in care of Bank of Marin, 368 Ignacio Boulevard, Novato, California 94949.
