Marta Benko Dunton

May 13, 1926-November 22, 2014

Marta Benko Dunton passed away in San Francisco on November 22, 2014. She was the wife of the late Lewis Benko and of the late Loren Dunton.
Beloved mother of Ludwig Benko and his wife Catherine of Arcata.
Dear grandmother of Miklos Benko and his wife Dianna of Concord and dear grandmother of Marika Benko Hersh and her husband Cliff Hersh of Sebastopol.
Loving great-grandmother of Alex Benko, son of Miklos and Dianna and of Mirabella Benko Hersh, daughter of Marika and Cliff.
Born in Budapest Hungary, she studied acting, graduating from the National Academy of Theater Arts. She married Lewis, an electrical engineer in 1944.
Swept away by the turmoil of the period, they ended up in Austria where their only child Ludwig was born. Emigrating to the United States in 1951 she gradually became proficient in English and worked for Kaiser Permanente for 35 years, setting up and being in charge of Medicare billing.
She married Loren in 1982. He was an early proponent of financial planner education and traveled extensively with Marta speaking on the subject. They had many friends all over the world.
She had a lot of fun shopping at thrift stores and wrote a book on the subject, "Marta's Closet".She acted in a local theater group playing parts such as Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" Not long ago she was swimming laps at her local health club.
She was a kind person who helped out others in hard times. She will be greatly missed by a great many people.

Marta was truly a remarkable person. She was as brilliant as she was funny and as generous and loving as humanly possible. She adored her children Ludwig, Paige and Brooke, her grand children and great grandchildren. Those of us fortunate enough to have known her will cherish those memories forever.

Marta and Loren were our dearest friends. We laughed and cried together. Traveled together and popped champagne corks from the balcony together. Shared a memorable meal of crab, sourdough bread, fresh asparagus (Ben still eats it with mayo as taught by Loren) and fresh strawberries. Marta and I would descend on a city on one of the speaking/convention trips and search out all of the resale shops- find some gems and laugh at the outrageous. In New Orleans we bought something from every stall in the flea market. When it was beginning to add up - Marta would buy something for my birthday, and I would reciprocate by buying something she "had to have" for her birthday and we would laugh. So many fun memories. Love you Marta - always will.

As Marta's step-daughter for nearly the last 32 years, I grew to love her very much, as did my sister Brooke Bacon, and our children, Marta's grandchildren Gabriel Lockwood, Matt Lambert, and Sarah Lambert Mease. She is dearly missed.
