I am so sorry to see that Marty has passed. We had lost touch years ago but I remember meeting her through mutual friends in Santa Cruz. We ended up bonding over losing our mothers to cancer, love of opera and attending the Stanford Pow Wow. She was truly a light in this world. My deepest condolences to Keldyn and family. My thoughts are with all of you navigating this world without Marty in it.

On the 5th anniversary of my own son's death, I was taken aback by reading about Marty's death in the Sunday Chron.
Marty was a wonderful teacher and such a kind person. She always showed encouragement and I am grateful for having known her. Dear Keldyn, I know you were the light in her life.

My heart goes out to Keldyn and to Marty’s family at this time.
Rarely does someone come into your life that alters it for the better. Marty fell into that category for me. As one of her many students, she unleashed my potential as a photographer that has allowed me to capture treasured moments of my family and friends.
Marty set an example for living one’s life too. To illustrate this point, any exchange with Marty always involved a question about the wellbeing of my son and fellow photography class alum Trevor. Her patience in serving others in her photography class was to be admired as well.
The last time I contacted Marty it was to teach an iPhone photography workshop at my company, an invitation she declined to travel with Keldyn instead. In typical Marty fashion, she encouraged me to teach the class closing her e-mail with the words: “Keep it real simple and fun, Love Marty”. In the end, over 300 people attended the video conference workshops in the US and in Europe with more sessions planned in 2021. I never would have had this experience without Marty’s support and I now feel it in a small way continues her legacy of community and connecting people.
Thank you Marty for the positive changes you have made in my life.

Marty was always so nice and thoughtful. We laughed at our 50th HS Reunion that I bought the same outfit she was wearing but chose another outfit just before the reunion at the last minute. I’m so glad she had a good marriage and a good life. She was talented and thoughtful and a joy to be with. RIP sweet Marty Springer. I’m glad we shared a good conversation at the reunion and connected again on Facebook.

She was such a kind-hearted person inside and out. I was lucky to have been one of her photography students in 2018 and will forever be grateful for the beauty she not only brought to photography but to the beauty she ignited within all of us as artists. She left us way too soon but a special prayer as she BEGINS her Rest In Peace.

I am so happy that I was able to be back in touch with Dear Marty after 50 years, and was able to spend some time with her and Keldyn exactly two years ago. Marty was as loving, sensitive, creative, and generous as I remembered her. She was very in touch with nature, and took me to Point Reyes for my very first time. I will always remember her there. My sincere condolences to you, Keldyn. Please advise me when her memorial service is held. I very much want to attend.

What a wise and wonderful woman Marty was. I knew her only through our shared political activism, but felt such a genuine sense of caring and connection from her - I think everyone did. I will miss her so much!
