Matt Pontar

Matt Frank Pontar Oct. 11, 1937 - Feb. 24, 2010 At the age of 72, Matt lost his courageous three year battle to cancer. He was born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin. He attended Marquette University and graduated from Milton College. His first love was teaching and coaching High School football where he was influential in many students' lives. Moving to California in 1969 he pursued a career in Real Estate, eventually founding Pontar Real Estate Management Corporation in San Francisco which is still in existence today. He is survived by his loving wife Merry of 47 years. They met in 1960 and rarely spent any time apart. They settled in Lafayette and raised their three daughters; Michelle Walters (Paul), Marni Pontar, and Merri Rawski (Jon). They enjoyed traveling and being with their family. He loved his six Grandchildren in such a special way. Lauren, Sam, Riley, Peri, Sadie, and Ruby, all enjoyed spending time and being with Grandpa. He will also be missed by his two sisters in Wisconsin, Mitzi Budney and Toni Pontar. Matt was a champion domino player and enjoyed memberships at various clubs in San Francisco, where he and the boys played daily and enjoyed competitive tournaments. He also enjoyed fishing and every year he visited his favorite lake in Wisconsin where he spent hours reeling them in. He was an avid sports fan. Matt rarely missed a football, basketball or baseball game. Professional sports had been a major interest from a young age. Friends and Family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at Christ the King Church on Thursday March 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow at Zio Fraedo's.
