Mervyn Donner Obituary

Mervyn Robert Donner 70 years old, passed away on January 7, 2011, surrounded by family and loved ones. Merv was respected and admired by all who had the opportunity to know him. He was born on February 22, 1940 in Stockton, California and raised in Redwood City. He graduated from Sequoia High School and attended San Jose State University. As a young man he joined Wells Fargo Bank, where he held management positions in both the retail and consumer credit areas for over 30 years. His work with Wells Fargo took him to Southern California where he met and married Marcia, his soulmate for life. Merv was passionate about life and lived every day to its fullest with love, with an amazing sense of humor and happiness, although he enjoyed the his day more if it included chocolate! Merv and Marcia were very fortunate to travel the world and thoroughly enjoyed each new experience together. When not traveling, Merv enjoyed every aspect of being outdoors from laying in the sun reading a book, to biking road or mountain trails. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Twain Harte laughing with friends, snowshoeing new trails with his grand-dogs, golfing at the local course and four wheeling with pals in his red jeep. He enjoyed watching the San Francisco Giants win the World Series. Merv touched many lives and carrying his memory is his wife of 28 years, Marcia, and his devoted children, Linda (and partner Van) and David (and wife Shawn), and delightful grandchildren, Samantha, Miriam, and Sasja, and his caring brother Richard (and wife Emily). Merv was preceded in death by his first wife, Sharon. The family would like to thank Dr. Wei Ai and the oncology doctors, nurses and staff at UCSF. Donations can be made in Merv's name to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and directed to research for T-Cell non-Hodgkin Lymphoma at The Greater San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, 221 Main Street, Suite 1650, San Francisco, CA 94105 or https://www.leukemia-lyphoma.org/all_donate?item_ de=807&stype=1.

Though I haven't seen Merv in years, I'll always remember him for his hilarity and wit that kept the swim team, particularly me, "very loose" on those long team bus rides to high school swim meets....He was a fun loving guy...R.I.P, Merv

Uncle Merv,
You taught us how to love life, enjoy every day, never look back, and treat our mate like gold. I miss you and think of you often. Your niece, Kathy

I am both humbled and inspired having been witness to the bravery demonstrated as Merv endured an overwhelming amount of discomfort during the 7 months of his illness. During that time, he never failed to extend his appreciation to those who offered their prayers and assistance as well as to medical professionals who cared for him. He did it and NEVER complained, nor did he ever bring anyone down by defining any of the misery that he was experiencing.

Merv fought this enemy with dignity and honor.
Merv led an exemplary life. He was honest, loyal, loving and caring to those with whom he had worked as well to his family.

The love for his son and daughter and grandchildren as well as for his entire family was evident and the reciprocal love and devotion shared with his wonderful wife, Marcia, was unparalleled by any other marital team that I have ever known.

Now… he is free of pain, free from the unknown, and although deeply missed, he is in a better place.

Although the void of his passing will never be filled, the everlasting memories will be a part of our daily lives forever.

Merv led a life that made mom and dad, me included, very proud. I am honored to be able to say that Merv was my brother.

What sad news. I have nothing but good memories of Merv from our high school days at Sequoia. He was one of the nicest boys I knew there with a great sense of humor. My deepest condolences to his family.

I remember Merv from my Sequoia days - I was a new kid on the block starting in my Sophmore year. He was so friendly and always made me laugh. God bless.

Was shocked and truly saddened by Merv's passing-too soon. Worked with him at Wells in Redwood City and it was a pleasure. Fun to be around, good sincere friend, loyal, conscientious, great sense of humor--cannot say enough. Thoroughly enjoyed knowing him and being in his company, as did everyone else there.
Rest in peace, old friend...

Marcia,
You may still be here on Earth with us but I know you already have your Angel wings... you were the great love of my Dad's life and I am so lucky to have you in my family.
