Meyer Ernest "Ernie" Bloom

Passed away September 20, 2016. Survived by his loving wife Pearl following 61 years of a fairy tale marriage and friendship; 3 children Kent, Craig and Clark; 5 grandchildren Kevin, Caitlin, Cory, Melanie and Ally; niece Lynn, nephew Stacey; son-in-law Joe and daughters-in-law Stacy and Marcia.
Born in San Francisco to Irwin and Teresa Bloom, he was a 4th generation San Franciscan. Ernie graduated from Lowell High School in 1946 and after serving in the Air Force during the Korean conflict he graduated from Golden Gate University while launching a 39 year career in purchasing with United Air Lines at SFO. He raised his family in Daly City where he was a pillar in the community serving as Cub Master for Pack 69 and Scout leader for Troop 343, being a vocal citizen at school board and city council meetings, coaching baseball or bringing cheer to all as Santa Claus. He spent his last 32 years in San Mateo where he transitioned from Santa to "Swami" the clown where his public service continued by brining smiles to patients at Peninsula and Mills Hospitals or children at all Elks Club events. In acknowledgement of his tireless and selfless service to the communities in which he lived, Ernie, with his wife, was the recipient of the PTA's Honorary Life award and Elk of the Year.
He was a member of Masonic Fidelity Lodge 120 and the Elks Lodge of San Mateo where when he wasn't "Swami", swimming laps in the pool or serving dinner on Wednesdays you'd find him holding court telling stories and jokes in the men's locker room.
