Echoing all other guestbook writers here it is obvious how many lives Mike has touched through the years. With me, being that Cliff and I attended the same schools played on the same teams from Kindergarten thru 8th(Mater Dolorosa) Riordan High School and even USF Mike and my dad would always be there taping our games, Mike the camera my dad play-by-play, both doing so as the camera would instantly fly downward, with action not being seen as they were both YELLING out instructions from the stands!! lol When I was younger everybody would be waiting for their Big, Red, and Jolly guy to come bring presents on XMAS, well I was too, but I was also waiting for that doorbell to ring near XMAS-EVE when Los and MY Big, Red, and Jolly guy who happeneded to be Big Mike had a bag of Jerseys, sweatpants, etc....Tom Chambers, Kiki Vandeweigh, Larry Bird, and so on....it is amazing how you just go through life expecting things to be there and be the same, and without hearing Mike's deep voice, yelling out something sarcastic, yet making you feel, "Hey, it's not that serious...there'll be another game".....Well Mike I look forward to being at the next one someday with you......you will ALWAYS be on our minds no matter what/when/where.......God Bless

Dear Callero family. My thoughts are with you all during this rough times. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to be coached by mike in not only basketball, but baseball too. He always knew what to say to make you laugh or smile. He was a great coach, but even a greater guy. He along with Jim Elder, Bob Munoz (R.I.P.) and Vince Leveroni have done more for the city of South San Francisco then people will ever know. The lives they influenced are countless. His personal influence on me, is what got me into coaching youth basketball for the last five years. And last year was my first as an assistant coach for my sons baseball team in the Shetland SSF league. To watch my son play at the same fields I once played on is unreal. I will make sure he knows who mike was, and what he did for me. I only hope I can be half the man he was.

I was so very sad to learn of Mike's passing. Us Loeffler kids grew up with the Callero family in Winston Manor. The entire Callero family were "good people" and very well respected.

It sounds like Mike cotinued to be a great man. To Mike's wife, children, and family...please accept my heartfelt sympathy. You are all in my prayers.

Dear Callero Family,

I want to offer my condolences to you any/everyone close to him especially Lee. It is a sad day for all, but a blessing for everyone who's life Mike impacted and I know in a postive way. There were hundreds of children from the North Peninsula (and I was fortunate to be one) that had the chance/opportunity be be coached and mentored by Mike and consider him a very special friend.

Mike, thanks as you were the most influential person in my life outside of my parents. I didn't see Mike that much, but when I did he was always interested in me, my life and ask "How are your parents doing?". Mike cared and he remember and I always felt lucky he was in my life as a child.

Thanks again for all of your patience to sticking with us as encouraging us thoughout all of the "Bad Seasons we had at MD and yes... we were BAD"

In closing, being a little, blue eyed, red headed, freckled faced kid. I'm sure I got piece of my personality from Mike especially the postive attitude and smile! Being similiar in appeareances 'he stuck up for me" . . . Mike.... Thanks for all of your memories and friendship and Rest in Peace.

To The Callero Family:

We all grew up togeher in Winston Manor in South San Francisco. The Callero family had (4) boys and (1) girl and we had (4) girls and (1) boy, all around the same ages. Dolores and Fran were in Girl Scouths together. Phil was one of our brothers best friends. (Even though he was a Dallas Cowby Fan). We are so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. Gosh, time goes by so fast. We were unable to attend the services due to medical reasons, but our thoughts and prayers are with you and all the family.

To the Callero Family.....Please accept our deepest sympathy. We had the pleasure of meeting Mike and his family though family members of our own (Bill and Dina Martens). As everyone knows, Mike always greeted everyone with a smile and was truly a revered individual in the Daly City/South City area. As a former Riordan grad, I also had the pleasure of knowing and graduating with John (Mike's brother). Truly a remarkable duo. The mold doesn't exist anymore for these 2 guys. Our thoughts are with you all. God Bless.

Dear Lee-
Sorrow can hardly express my feelings for you and the Callero family. Mike and I go back to the early seventies when we worked together at QFI in Millbrae. He became one of my closest friends in those years. He was hard not to like because he always had a smile on his face and always made the bad... good. In my book and all others who knew him, he was just a really good guy to know. Lee take comfort in the fact so many loved him so much, including me.

October 13, 2009

Dear Callero Family,
From the time I was a teenager shopping for baseball gear at D&D to sitting in the stands watching Riordan games, Mike always took the time to say hello and talk. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. I will always remember him as a friend and true Crusader.

Dear Callero Family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you. The city of South City has lost one of the most respective role models. I am so glad that Mike touched the hearts of my 2 boys (Trever and Tyler). Ty played tournaments for Mike and loved him very much. Mike was a friend of my fathers (Ray Frye) and I do no know that they are both in heaven talking baseball.....God bless you all...

Dear Lee, Phil and family,

I am very sad to hear of Mike's passing. The last I saw him was at C&L when he got some uni's for my daughters 3rd grade baskeball team, about 10 years ago. He coached our rag-tag bunch of So City kids on our 6th and 7th grade baskeball teams at MD and I have great memories of those days. He was the old school coach and I still get laughs telling of some of his "inhumane" disciplinary methods! All in good fun. Mike made us feel good about playing for him and made the game fun for us, even though our lack of talent made him cringe. Mike Callero touched me in a positive way and I am very sorry that he left too young. My Best to the family,

Kevin McCarthy

Dear Lee and Family,
I am very sorry for your loss, Mike was great man. Your family as well as hundred’s of other lives he touched over the years will miss him. For me personally, Mike was such a huge influence on my life and one of the biggest regrets I will have for the rest of my life is not truly letting him know how much. There is not a practice or game that I am coaching in, that I will not ask myself ‘what would Mike do or say’? Yes, I will miss him dearly, but his legacy will live on through those lives he touched, especially mine.

The world has lost one of God's most Beautiful Angels. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and anyone who has had the pleasure to meet this man. I was blessed by God when he came into my life at such an early age of ten years old. He not only coached me in baseball, but in life. He gave me my first job when i was 12, and i had the blessing to spend 6 years with him 4 days a week, as i worked with him at D&D until i was 18. During this time, He not only mentored me, but was like a true father to me. He will live on inside of me with all of the values, morals, responsibility, humor, caring, and love of life that he exuded. I am truly a better man to have had so much time, and education of life from him. I know im not the only one, we are all blessed to have had experienced life with Mike Callero as a part of it.
You will be deeply missed, the world is a better place because of your contributions. You were truly an Angel here on Earth, Thank you.
~We love you Mike~

To The Calero Family:

Mike will always be in our hearts. He was a great coach for SSF, El Camino High School and our two sons, (Dan & Jason Rice). It's hard to find many people in this world like Mike, who has given up as much of his time to keep our children safe and out of trouble, he also made our community stronger . Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Always,
