Michael Hardeman Obituary

Michael E. Hardeman
July 4, 1943 - December 7, 2022
With sadness and respect, we announce the passing of Michael E. Hardeman at the age of 79.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife Marina Hardeman; cherished children Monica, Nick (Katie), and Greg and grandchildren Evan Redmond, Gracie Gavin, Damien and Alexandra Hardeman; loved siblings Linda Romeo and Ron Hardeman (half-brother). He is preceded in death by his parents Olga Pavloff and Vince Hardeman; daughter Michelle; and brother Vince.
Mike Hardeman, a third generation San Franciscan, was born on July 4, 1943. He attended Mission Dolores Grammar School and graduated from Balboa High School.
Mike was a San Francisco labor leader. First beginning as a bottler at breweries, he became an apprentice sign painter in 1962, a journeyman in 1966, and pictorial artist in 1968. He was a member of Sign and Display Local Union 510, IUPAT.
Mike was a 30 year-plus member of SF Labor Council Executive Board and delegate to SF Building Trades; served on Board of Directors to: Angel Island Immigration Station, Consumer Federation of CA, OPEIU Local 3 Pension and Health Trust Fund, Bay Area Catholic Labor Committee, Serenity House, SF 49ers Community Adv. Panel, SF Convention and Visitors Board and dozens of others. His civic service included membership on: Democratic Central Committee, SF Human Rights Commission, SFPUC, SF Port Commission, SF Fire Commission, and Respiratory Care Board of California, and current appointment to the California State Athletic Commission.
Mike was a very proud member of Calamari, Fryers and Godfathers for St. Vincent School for Boys clubs. He was a recipient of numerous awards from the SF Labor Council, SF Conv and Visitor Bureau, Coalition of Black Trade Unionists and many others.
Mike's artistic skills and love of art was unmatched. He painted campaign banners for nearly every SF elected official in the past 40 years, sports banners for SF high school sports teams, and birthday signs for his family. Mike also painted the portrait of Phil Burton at Burton High School.
Mike will always be remembered for his big, vibrant smile, infectious laugh, and his attendance at every SF civic event. After his retirement, Mike traveled the world with his wife, Marina.
In addition and as noted first, Mike was a loving husband, father and grandfather (Papa). He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids, was a proud coach of SF youth sports, and a die-hard "fan of" Giants, 49ers, Warriors, and daughter in-laws semi-pro soccer team, CA Storm. Mike loved all sports!
Family and friends are welcome to the Vigil at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, December 13; a visitation at 10:30 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 14. All services at St. Cecilia Church, 2555 17th Ave, San Francisco.

My son Curtis is reapplying for his painting contractors license - he let it lapse after being wiped out in the 2008 crash. It made me think of Mike, so even though I had heard he passed, I just wanted to verify it. I met Mike in the 70's when he was over at my neighbors house in Fremont. Spider Cantley got Mike
involved in his Leukemia Fund raising escapades - like making hundreds of Christmas decorations for all our neighbors. I was the Executive Vice President of PATCO (air traffic controllers Union) and we would all get together for the Building Trades luncheons, North Beach, California Democratic EBoards and Conventions Labor Caucus, and other events. No person I ever met was more likeable and friendlier than Mike. Resting in peace my Brother.

Mike and I were on the SF Labor Council together for over 15 years while I was representing SF Machinist Lodge #68. He was a great guy and a union person who always had a smile on his face. We reunited after many years at a SF Fryers Club luncheon and picked up our friendship where we left off, many years ago. He will be missed. Condolences to his family. R.I.P.

I'm very sorry to hear of the passing of Uncle Mike. He was my favorite relative always giving me money to buy my kids necessities I couldn't otherwise afford as a young single mother. Uncle Mike was kind and very non-judgmental. I felt very comfortable around Uncle Mike and always looked forward to seeing him because he took interest in my life. Rest in peace. Jori Nunes
