Michael Holmes

Michael Stephen Holmes Passed away peacefully August 1, 2010 in his home in Oakland , Ca as the sun was setting. Kimberley Urbano, Michael's loving wife of 20 years was at his side. He fought a very long private battle with cancer. Michael was born August 5,1947 in Berkeley, Ca which he always proudly stated was "his hometown".He will be greatly missed by his brother Robert Holmes, Robert's Fiance and the entire Urbano family. Michael adored watching his much loved Nieces, Nephews, God Children and Step Daughter grow throughout his life. Michael's close friends and colleagues will greatly miss his compassion, wit and heart. Michael graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts (CCAC). Throughout his commercial art career, he also pursued his passion as a fine artist and sculptor working with found objects and materials. However, it was when he joined the Academy of Art University in u1992, that Michael discovered his true life mission. For the next fifteen years, Michael was an instructor in the Fine Art Department, where his Senior Portfolio Workshop became a rite of passage for graduating seniors. Nothing was more important to Michael than his students and his nurturing of them to become successful and joyful in the Art World. Service to be held at St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church in Berkeley, Ca 1640 Addison St 94703 on Tuesday August 17,2010 @ 2pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity in his name.
