Michael Monozon Obituary

Michael Clifford Monozon April 12 1946 - August 8, 2009 A resident of Hillsborough. "Integrity is Everything" was the motto of this wonderful man who passed away of cancer at the age of 63. Born on April 12, 1946 in Marin County, he leaves behind a devoted family including his wife Kathie Lawson Monozon, sister Pam and her husband Bob Riechel, sons Brian and Michael and their wives Jamie and Nicole, grandchildren Brooke, Dominic, Andrew, Nicolas and Dylan. He was a highly respected member of the real estate community on the San Francisco Peninsula as a partner of Prudential California Realty in San Bruno. Michael had a long and award-winning career that spanned over 40 years. He was a man of passion for many things, including the San Francisco 49ers and Giants, being an avid supporter and long-time season ticket holder. Michael loved spending his time with his family in Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas and Carmel. Michael served as president of the local Association of Realtors and the California Association of Realtors. He co-authored The Book of Real Estate Clauses published in 1990, and has trained many real estate agents who became superstars. He has been recognized three times by the San Mateo County Board of Realtors as "Realtor of the Year," the only person so honored. Michael frequently gave large donations anonymously to local schools and charitable organizations. He never quit, never gave up on anyone or any cause in which he believed. Michael had a gift of making everyone feel as though they were unique and special. He was deeply loved and respected by many, many people and will be profoundly missed. Any donations to VNA Sutter Hospice would be greatly appreciated.

I enjoyed a friendship with Michael for several years. He managed a real estate office in Burlingame, and I am a popular speaker on litigation avoidance for real estate agents statewide. He had me in for his team for something like 12 years in a row. He was an extraordinarily nice man.

I first met Michael when I move out here from Florida. I was the computer instructor for his office and designed their first network. He was a great man and love by me, my team, and my family.

Today I found a real estate scratch pad with Mike's picture on it that he would have passed out to home owners to promote his real estate business. The year was 1973. Yes, 1973. Mike, then managed Don Trotter's South San Francisco office and I managed Mr. Trotters then Belmont office. Mike and I used to have joint sales meetings. I moved to Southern California in 1974 starting my own real estate company in 1976, and soon will be celebrating our 34th anniversary in business. Mike even back in 1973 loved training sales people. He valued honesty, intergrity and had a caring heart for other. From the comments in this guest book, it appears he never lost those qualities.

I googled him to find out how to make contact to send this scratch pad for him to see how he looked when he was 27 years old. I was surprised to find that he had recently passed away from cancer.

I extend my codolences to his family, his sales staff and his employees and friends. I am sure he will be missed by all.

I just found out a few minutes ago about Michael's passing. I am deeply saddened. Michael made a difference in my life as he did many. I never got to say thank you. But I know he's smiling down on us from Heaven. I will miss you Michael.

This entry comes late....9/8/09. My broken heart keeps me from finding the right words to express how much Michael meant to me. It keeps me from reaches out to his family and simply saying "Sorry for your loss". Those words seem so empty and superficial. Not worthy of Michael. He was a father figure, a friend, my mentor, my protector. For me, Michael was the guy with the yellow lights and florescent vest making sure I landed safely everyday. To say the least, he was by far, absolutely the most amazing human being I have even known. I will always and forever miss him.

I first met Michael when I attended Prudential's Career Night in 2004. I was an aspired agent back then who had no clue about the real estate business. The connection was instant when I sat in the conference room and listened to Michael’s introduction. That night, although he didn’t sell me any houses (joke!), he certainly had me sold on his integrity, passion, and compassion. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from Michael about the real estate business. But more importantly, Michael had given me valuable lessons about life. He had a great gift to make everyone feel special and touch people in such a magical and genuine way. He will always be remembered and loved by everyone he has touched. My heart goes out to the Monozon Family.

I sat in front of Michael's office for over a year & had the pleasure of seeing him every morning when I came to work. Many mornings Michael & I were the only ones there. I would stop into his office & just chit-chat. No matter how busy he may be, Michael always had time to talk to me. One of the many great qualities he had was making you feel like you were the most important person in the world. I will sorely miss those early morning chit-chats & just seeing him sitting in his office. Michael will be missed but will always be remembered by some many who was blessed to have known him. My thoughts & prayers to the Monozon family.

Kathie, I never had the pleasure of meeting Michael, but I can tell by looking at his picture and reading what has been written about him that he was a special and unique person. I know he will be sorely missed and my thoughts are with you, his family, and many devoted friends.

Michael was very caring person. A few years ago after my 100 mile race, I wrote about my experience and I gave a copy to Michael. In the story I wrote about losing my “toe”, instead of “toe nail”. After reading that Michael was concern he came looked for me to ask me if my “Toe” will be okay and of course, I told him wasn’t “toe” it was “toe nail”.
I missed him very much and we lost a great man.

Michael aka "Mr. Wonderful" was a man admired and respected by so many, whose lives he touched by his genuine caring and generosity. I will forever hold close to my heart the Las Vegas trips; sitting at Scoma's in San Francisco for hours talking with tourists and him dancing on the street with some of the Fisherman's Wharf "locals". This world is a better place because of Michael and his many contributions. My life is more enriched for knowing Michael. We all should take what we learned from him and play it forward.

So much love to you, Kathie, Brian, Michael and Pam

Michale had a heart bigger than the Prudential building he helped built. That is how he fit all of us in it and still had room, oh..... for probably a thousand more. He continues to show up in my thougts and words. Thank you Michael for everything you did for me. You sure will be missed.

Dear Brian & Monozon Family,

Our prayers and best wishes for strength, patience, and hope remain with you. Let each of these traits find you and help you through a challenging time.

Mr. Monozon gave me solid investment advice 10 years ago before I purchased my first property. I also remember when he took Brian and myself to a 49er game when Jerry Rice broke the NFL mark for Career Receiving Touchdowns against the Raiders. These were my only 2 interactions with your dad, Michael Monozon, so isn't it safe to say he's batting .1000 in my eyes...? :-)

"This is only an observation, not a judgement or cristiscm"... Michael was a cut above the rest, in a league of his own. He was not only my boss, he was my mentor, friend, protector and my # 1 supporter. In my eyes he was invincible and because of that he will live on in my heart forever. Here's to an unlimitless amount of french fries, diet cokes, yummy yogurts, grand marnier's and Ritz Carlton Gold Club Access! I love you Michael!

To the Monozon Family,
Thank you for sharing Michael with us, it is appreciated in more ways then could ever be described! I wish you all positive thoughts and wonderful memories, his legacy will live on forever.

Love you always,

The whole world should have met him. We would be in much better shape. Thank you Michael for everything you gave us. "Use sentences without using "I"", "No criticisms, just an observation" The list goes on with the unselfish and graceful sayings Michael taught us all. They were not just sayings but his way of life. There was still much to learn from you Michael. It is still difficult to believe...Dear Monozon family, my thoughts, prayers and condolences are with you. This is a huge loss for us all.

My Papa is the best Grandpa ever and I love him so much. He was there when I was born 10 years ago, and 10 years doesn't seem long enough to me. I wish he could have stayed with us longer, but unfortunately God needs great people like my Papa in heaven to watch over all of us as our Guardian Angel. I miss him but I know he will always be in my heart.

Michael was a dear friend to me and even though I haven't seen him in ages, he will truly be missed. He lived right across the street from me when we were growing up and we played lots of sports, especially football. After high school I dated him for awhile and one date I especially remember is when he took me to see the movie, Its a Mad Mad World, in San Francisco. It was when we could walk around SF at night holding hands and listening to "I Want To Hold Your Hand" by the Beattles. I loved him and his family I grew up with. Although I don't know Kathie, Brian, and Michael, I send you my sincerest, deepest sympathy and to Pam and Rich too. God Bless you, Mike.

The years pass so quickly and before you know it, some one dear is gone too soon. I was so stunned and incredibly sad to hear the news. So many wonderful memories flood back of his friendship, his kindness and his generosity over the 30 years I have known him. Like so many others, I learned he was a gifted teacher who taught me a lot about residential real estate. He also taught by example in the way he lived his life, always family first, and always a soft heart for people in need. I loved him and respected him for that. Although I had not seen him for years, we did talk a couple of years ago when someone very close to us died. I was so happy to know that he had found happiness and contentment and was enjoying time with his family, especially the grandchildren. My prayers are with his family, that they will be blessed always with wonderful memories.

The loss of Michael leaves a void in my life that will never be filled. Our morning conversations and laughter were always a joy. From the first day I met him until our last email exchange, Michael made it clear that he genuinely cared about people and about me personally. He taught me many things about real estate but even more about valuing and loving people, really listening to them, and wanting to serve them. He was a mentor, cheerleader, guide, counselor, and a dear friend whom I will miss greatly. When I walk by his office in the morning, there is such a deep sense of loss but also a commitment to honor his memory by working even harder and with integrity and caring as he did.

My heart and prayers go out to Kathie and the family as they go through this time of sorrow. Thank you so much for sharing Michael - such a precious gift - with the rest of us. With love and gratitude, Jean

Michael was one of those special people you hope to meet in your lifetime. He was a leader, a mentor and someone you know too really cared about those around him. He was a person who was very private and very open at the same time. He would tell you the truth if you wanted to hear it. His special gift was his ability to read people and tell them what they needed to hear. Michael had a passion for learning and in turn he was a great teacher. He will be very much missed and truly loved.

Leona Monozon

August 13, 2009

Michael said one time, "There are two kinds of people in this world; givers and takers". Michael had the most generous spirit I have ever known; generous with his time, his energy, his resources and his heart. He gave not only to his loved ones and friends but to strangers and the down-trodden. He never wanted acknowledgement for his kindness nor expected anything in return. My heart goes out to Kathie, Brian, Michael and the entire family. He was the soul of my life at one time and a friend the last 19 years. His memory remains forever in my heart. Love, Leona

First and foremost, I hope that the Monozon family stays strong through this difficult time. I am so sorry.

I learned so much from Michael about real estate and also some of life's lessons. Michael taught me about having integrity and sharing good things we learn with people. I learned that hard work and discipline always pays off. Almost all of the books I have about real estate, people, motivation, time management, and all that stuff was given to me by him. He gave these books to everyone in our company! He was so amazing!

He was like a father figure, counselor, manager, teacher, mentor, and best of all, for me, he was a good friend who I shared my successes, losses and everyday stories with. I loved him so much and his legacy will live on forever in my heart and in those many many people that he touched.

Michael was truly a gentleman; warm loving, caring and genuine. The years I spent close to Michael brought plenty of "bantering" which he loved to do and boy was he good at it! He is someone that always kept me check and would check in on me. His advise was always good and honest. I have many memories of just hanging out with Michael talking about life and I feel very blessed to have known him. The years have passed and I have been away from the bay for sometime; I thought of him often and talked to him very infrequently that is something I wish I could change. I do believe in Heaven and I believe I will see him again. Kathie and all the rest of the Monozon family my heart goes out to you and you are in my prayers.
