1951 - 2013
"Mitch" Keil died peacefully May 5, 2013 at home in San Francisco after a long illness. He was 61 years old and a native San Franciscan, born June 28, 1951 at French Hospital, the only beloved child of the late Albert and Eleanor (McCabe) Keil.
Mitch grew up in the Richmond District on Seal Rock Drive.
He attended Lafayette Elementary, Capuchino High School, Millbrae, where he excelled in drama and was a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz with a degree in Psychology in 1973.
He was an independent real estate broker in Marin County for many years and a longtime member of the California Association of Realtors.
Throughout his life, Mitch was an avid hiker and camper; his crowning achievement was to summit Mt. Whitney from the west side.
As a volunteer at Green Gulch Farm and Tassajara, he strove for the pure essence of meditation.
He loved all things Italian and traveled often to his favorite city in the World (after San Francisco)-Rome.
Mitch was a ranked tennis player in the State of California and a lifetime member of the Golden Gate Park Tennis Club which he served as president for several years. It was during the annual club tournament that he met his future wife, Mary, when they played together in the mixed doubles finals. It was a match for life.
He is survived by his wife and tennis partner of nearly 20 years, Mary Casserly Keil, her brother, John Casserly, her sisters, Rose Casserly, Joan Casserly Haskell and Rita Bray, all of San Francisco. He is also survived by his cousins, Peg Grieneisen of Pompano Beach, FL and Ruthie Ward of Pittsburgh, PA. He will be dearly missed by his childhood neighbors and lifelong friends, the Hardy Family: Pearl, Cavin, Allison and Robin, by his "amico italiano," Michelangelo "Michy" of the Hosteria Miscellanea in Rome, by his "bons compagnons," Vince Mills and Alec Wagner of Nice, France and by his beloved little dog "Dolce".
A memorial Mass will be offered for the repose of his soul on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 4 PM at the Chapel of the Carmelite Monastery of Cristo Rey, 721 Parker Avenue at Fulton St., San Francisco. (across from St. Ignatius Church)

Seeing his smiling photo reminds of all the fun we shared on his and Mary's visits to Rome. He was a very positive person and is still missed by his friends.

I met Mitch just for once, and it was sufficient for him and Mary to gain a place in my heart. It's still difficult to believe he has passed away. All my prayer is that the Lord preserves his soul in perfect peace.
