Mitzi Barber Obituary

Mitzi Lee Barber Mitzi Barber passed away peacefully on March 12, 2007 in San Jose, CA, surrounded by family. She was 79. Mitzi was born in Palo Alto, CA, on January 6, 1928, the daughter of Pauline Buckman and Harold Braman. Pauline later married Mark Lee of Visalia, CA, where Mitzi spent her childhood and graduated from high school. She lived most recently at the Los Gatos Meadows in Los Gatos, CA. Mitzi was married to Alden G. Barber for 53 years and supported his long career with the Boy Scouts of America. Alden was chief scout executive of the BSA from 1967-1976. She was a full-time volunteer for scouting and in 1974 was honored with the Silver Fawn Award for distinguished service to Scouting. Mitzi pursued a successful business and real estate career beginning in 1974 and retired in 2003 after 16 years as senior loan consultant with Washington Mutual. She also held leadership positions and actively supported numerous civic and philanthropic organizations. Mitzi was the beloved mother of four children, Sharon Barnett, Mark Barber, Susan Leamons, and Maryann Mohn and three grandchildren, Lee Barnett, Stephen Barber, and Alex Barber. Additionally, she is survived by her sister Nancy Maginnis and brother, Harold (Bud) Lee. Also left to mourn her passing is daughter-in-law, Lynn Barber and sons-in-law, Jerry Mohn and Greg Leamons. A remembrance and celebration of Mitzi's life will be held on March 31, 2007 at 2:00 pm at the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos, 16575 Shannon Road, Los Gatos, CA 95032. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mitzi's honor may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation of the Greater Bay Area, 235 Pine Street 6th Floor, San Francisco 94104. www.makewish.org.
