Nancy passed away in her home of 57 years on the night of July 24 after a brief illness. Nancy had lived with short term memory loss for many years, which she managed with exceptional intelligence, good humor and pluck! Ever joyful and passionately interested in others, she remained so until her very last days.

As long as I can remember the Ferdon name was often spoken in our family. When I was a little girl, while visiting my grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferdon would enjoy dinner together while Maggy and I played. Not only did my grandfather serve on the Board of Supervisors with Mr. Ferdon, they enjoyed traveling together. As an adult, I had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Ferdon (by then I was calling her Nancy). She and I served on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Lawyers Wives. I so enjoyed her company whether in our knitting group or planning fundraising events. I was lucky enough to work at the San Francisco Law School when Mr. Ferdon was President of the Board of Directors. Our paths have crossed so many many times over the years. I am very sorry that I missed the service today as I just returned from out of town. My deepest condolences to all the family. Nancy was a lovely person whom I will always remember .

Nancy was a foster youth social worker when I met her thirty years ago. She worked with my foster daughter, developing important resources for her as well as always being available to her. Nancy was an extraordinary listener and motivator. She was inspiring. And when my daughter's foster years were over, Nancy remained her friend.
Nancy offered me her years of knowledge. She encouraged me. With her help, I was better prepared as a mom. She made a difference.
