Ah the memories of Mrs. Clifford.
My Mom, (Sally McWalters Conroy, R.I.P.) was also from Ireland. A special connection for them & so many others who came to San Francisco.
Oh the long conversations on Clement Street, at Star of the Sea School, & Star of the Sea Academy, with Mrs. Clifford laughing.
I send my love & prayers at this sad time to the Clifford and O'Shea families in particular.

I first met my Aunt Nora on a trip she made to Ireland (either the late '70s or early '80s). She told me that she'd first left Ireland for America forty years before. I asked her when she had last visited the "Old Sod" and she told me she had never been back before. You could never tell from her lilting Kerry brogue. I got to spend more time with her on my only trip to San Francisco so far, in 1988, when she generously put me up at her house. It was just before Thanksgiving and she was shocked when I told her I had to leave just before she was having her family over for the big day. "I thought you were staying till Christmas!" she said. Needless to say I changed my flight and spent a tremendous day with my cousins, the Cliffords, both of my own generation and the next. Like all her siblings (my mother included) she seemed to have an almost supernatural generosity of spirit, and I was grateful she was able to attend my wedding in '95. I last saw her in NYC about five years ago and she was as lively and gracefully ageless as ever.
Nora, you'll be truly missed by all the people you've touched.

I fondly recall seeing lovely Nora just a few months ago sitting at a table surrounded by her family who were obviously eager to be near her and quickly attend to her every need. She did not ask for much, but the family was ready if she had. She was adored and will be sorely missed by her family and those that considered her family.

My mom, Bridgie Mullen Donathan, considered Nora her good friend. We never went into Sears without seeking her out to visit. I'm sure she was there to greet her when she reached Heaven.

Clifford Family,
Your mom was a great neighbor, a sincerely kind person & a down-to-earth human being.
I personally loved to chat with your mom when I'd bump into her during her walks in the neighborhood! She was always ready to tell a short story, give a hug & always inquired about my mom!
She will truly be missed.
Your friends always,
Mrs. Kam Low, Dee & Melinda, Peter, William & Lorelie, Beulah & George, Emma & Michael & Alice & Gary.

We will miss Nana Nora very much. I first met Aunt Nora at my brother Billy's wedding in Indianapolis in 1995. She was dressed in a scarlet suit which she was able to carry off with elegance and style aged 76! She was also great craic. I remember thinking what a waste that I had not met this fabulous woman before and I regret that I did not get to spend more time with her. I know she was happiest in the company of her children and her nieces and nephews. When she came to Killarney to see us with Annie, Mary and Nuala she laughed all the time when her girls were around. She loved hanging out with you so much. That was the trip that Grace christened her 'Nana Nora' because she thought she looked so much like Grace's own Nana Anne. Nora had such generosity and spirit I know she'll be well taken care of on the other side. Babe, Samir and Grace xxx

To the Family
I worked with your Mom (and I considered her mine as well) at Sears and she was the absolute best Lady that I ever had the pleasure to know and work with. She had a heart of gold and never had anything bad to say about anybody all the years that I knew her and believe me she had a lot of oppurtunites LOL God Bless Her.

Some people you encounter in life leave a big impression. The Clifford family impressed me immensely. As a teenager, I was amazed that Mrs. Clifford could remember not only all her childrens' names, but all their friends' names, too, which was an extraordinary number of people. Even after not seeing her for many years, Mrs. Clifford remembered me when I attended her daughter's recent memorial mass. So I wanted to sign this book to let her know that I always remembered her, too, as an extremely warm and welcoming person. I extend my deepest sympathy to the entire family (great people), and to those others out there who were also impressed by kindness of Nora Clifford.
