Norman Dunham Obituary

Norman E. Dunham
May 9th, 1937 - August 28th, 2021
Norman E. Dunham (a.k.a. Stormin' Norman), age 84, of San Bruno, California, passed away in San Bruno on Saturday August 28th, 2021.

Born on May 9th, 1937 to Virginia and Elwyn D. Dunham in Brunswick, Maine. He was one of four children, an older sister Beverly E. Wass, an older brother, Robert E. Dunham, and younger brother Elwyn D. Dunham Jr.

In his early years he worked in a sawmill. After graduating from Healdsburg High School in 1955, he joined the Navy in 1956 and was an electrician out at Hunter's Point Shipyard on the USS Bon Homme Richard CV31. After his service, he was a Police Officer in San Bruno, California for 20 years, and during that time was a frequent Destruction Derby Winner across multiple years where he was known as Stormin' Norman.

Much of his knowledge was gained through his lifelong commitment to learning by reading books he found at the library and by figuring things out on his own. Any task imaginable he could complete and master the skill, certainly much more than a jack of all trades. In his retirement, he built a cabin from trees he milled from his own property and built the cabin entirely on his own. In addition, he was a crab boat fisherman, abalone diver, wood worker, chainsaw carver, and avid gardener.

Always kind, honorable to a fault, strong in both mind and body and an upstanding gentleman all around. Never backed down from a fight, but never went looking for one either. He had a strong sense of conviction of doing what was right. Truly a legend in his own rite by those who knew him and outstanding role model of what hard work, drive, and determination could accomplish.

He was a kind and loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend. He has left a remarkable legacy where his legend will live on through all the memories of those who love and miss him.

Norm was preceded in death by his Darling Wife, Nadine Dunham; Sons – Robert S. Steen & Craig D. Dunham, Mother Virginia Keith, Father Elwyn D. Dunham; Brothers Robert E. Dunham, & Dennis Mann and Sister Beverly E. Wass.

Norm is survived by his daughter - Eileen Su Stafford; Grandchildren – Benjamin Schulz, Patrick Schulz, Heather A. Stafford, & Richard S. Stafford; Sister – Lynn Botkins; Nieces – Nadine Heenan, Barbara Wass, Barbara Malatesta, Elaine McGuire, & Robin Morely; Nephews – Chet Heenan, Louis Wass & Charlie Wass.

Memorial Service will be held on Sunday October 17th, 2021 at 1:30pm at the Garden Chapel located at 885 El Camino Real, South San Francisco, California.
