Pat Kennedy, aged 83, died peacefully in his sleep on December 19, 2013 at his home in Santa Rosa, California. He is survived by his loving family - wife of 51 years, Rowena, son Kevin and his wife Jeanette and their son Connor of Atherton; daughter Cindy and her son Miles and daughter Talia of Santa Barbara. Pat grew up in the coal mining communities around Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a BA in American History and Economics. After a stint in the Army, he returned to earn an MA in American History and Economics. Thus, began his highly successful 35 year career in education. He worked as a public school teacher or administrator in places as different as Kodiak, AK, Ridgecrest, CA, Seaside, CA and Tomalas, CA. Working in the Shoreline District in Western Marin for 18 years, he served as Principal of Tomalas High School and eventually as District Superintendent. After retirement, he continued his leadership skills serving as volunteer President of the Board of Directors of his neighborhood association for multiple terms. He also was a member of the Community Church of Sebastopol for over 35 years. Pat was long-suffering fan of the Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame football. He also loved the 49ers, but suffered less as a result. A memorial service will be held at the Community Church of Sebastopol (1000 Gravenstein North) on Saturday, December 28 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to your favorite charity or The Children's Village of Sonoma County or The Community Church of Sebastopol.

Dear Rowena! I just received your card and was so sorry to hear about Pat. After reading it, I had to pause a moment, then smiled remembering his kindness and warmth. He will be missed by many who knew him and with the love of your family I know it will carry you through this very sad time. Thank you for remembering us and letting us know.
