Patrick O’Leary Obituary

Age 55, passed away peacefully in his Dublin home on Saturday, 7/11/2015 at 4:26 A.M. after a valiant ten-month battle with brain cancer.
Patrick was born on 7/2/1960 in San Francisco, California to his mother and father, Kathleen and Patrick O'Leary. He grew up in South San Francisco with his two older sisters, Kathleen O'Leary and Theresa Brunicardi, and younger sister, Peggy Frasier. He was a graduate of Junipero Serra High School in San Mateo, and as a life-long San Francisco Giants fan, he never missed an opportunity to let people know that he went to the same school as Barry Bonds. Patrick's children, Clare and Conor O'Leary, were the light of his life, and he was incredibly proud of both of them. He always said that had he not been their dad, he would have hoped to have known them because they were such incredible people.
While Patrick would humbly describe himself as an ordinary man, those who knew him would agree he led an extraordinary life. Patrick's first thought was always what he could do to help others rather than being concerned about himself. Patrick dedicated over half of his life being of service to a fellowship that loved him tremendously. He was a mentor to so many whose lives were changed, and even saved, through his willingness to share his experience, strength and hope. Patrick and his wife, Lisa O'Leary, shared a passion for this fellowship and when they weren't taking their frequent weekend adventures, you could almost surely find them hand-in-hand at a meeting or event with other members of their community.
Patrick is survived by his two children, Clare and Conor; his wife, Lisa; his mother, Kay; his sisters, Kathleen and Peggy (Jim Frasier); and seven nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Terry (Jim Brunicardi), who tragically passed of the same disease, and his father, Pat. He was adored as a father, husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, mentor, and friend. Patrick's tremendous spirit will never be forgotten, and those he has touched will do their best to carry on his legacy of love and service.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, 7/15/2015 from 4 until 8 P.M., Vigil at 7:00 pm at Graham-Hitch Mortuary located at 4167 First Street, Pleasanton, CA 94566. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, 7/16/2015 at noon, at St. Augustine Church located at 3999 Bernal Avenue, Pleasanton, CA 94566.
Another public memorial service celebrating Patrick's life will be held in the coming weeks, date to be determined. Further information will be posted on Patrick's Caring Bridge website. Please register at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/poleary to be included in updates.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on Patrick's behalf to the American Brain Tumor Association, located at 8550 W. Bryn Mawr Avenue Suite 550, Chicago, IL 60631, or on their website at http://www.abta.org.
