Paul Schneider Obituary

Paul H. Schneider
02/01/1930 - 09/03/2024
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Paul H. Schneider - beloved father, grandfather, and dedicated SFPD Police inspector. Paul passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, at the age of 94, in San Francisco, the city where he was born, grew up and was so proud to call his home.
Paul grew up in the Noe Valley/Mission neighborhood, and went to Polytechnic High School where he played Varsity Football at Kezar Stadium. He proudly served his country as a member of the Army 82nd Airborne, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty and loyalty.
Paul had a distinguished career as a Police Inspector in the Robbery detail of San Francisco Police Department, where he served with honor and integrity. His work ethic, great sense of humor and commitment to justice left an enduring mark on the department and the community he served.
As a black belt in judo, he competed in the Police Olympics, and won many gold medals for the SFPD.
He also used his love of scuba diving to co-create the SFPD underwater dive unit for search and rescue.
Outside of work, Paul had a lifelong passion for adventure. He dove all over the world, exploring the depths of the ocean with the same dedication he brought to his work.
Paul be remembered as a loving father, a joyful grandfather and a loyal brother by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Paul is survived by his children Christina, Christian and Paul, his brother, Ronald Schneider, his grandchildren Monica Flores, Jessica Flores, Fallon Brown, Farrah Brown, Landon Brown, Keagan Brown and Trenton Brown, and his spouse Maria Magdalena Alba.
Paul now joins his twin sister, Joan, who passed long ago. His family was the center of his world, and his love for them was immeasurable.
Paul was known for his sharp wit, infectious humor and the joy he brought to everyone around him. Paul will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, strength and dedication will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

I knew Paul from the robbery detail.I actually later sat at his desk.He was a great Inspector and a better jokester.Practical jokes on his fellow workers. And also brave as hell, volunteering to be taken hostage to save the life of a friend. God bless you Paul and your family....Tony Camilleri

There aren't many downsides to living to be 94 years old, but if there is one it's the fact that you have outlived most all your colleagues who knew and admired you. Such is the case with Paul and the ONLY reason there aren't a hundred glowing memories posted in this column.

I never had the honor of actually working cases with Paul, as he was retired before the snot had dried on my upper lip, but his reputation was epic and he was roundly admired by everyone I knew.

Yes, I'll miss having an occasional beer with Paul at Grandma's Saloon on Taraval Street, and talking about the Police Dive Team (Which I inherited years later) but he lived an exemplary life that can't be downplayed by any man.

Rest well Airborne Warrior, you have earned it .

Paul and I were partners for five years in the Robbery Detail. Wow, what a great ride that was. Paul was a hard working, fun loving and most capable detective. I learned so much from Paul but of all he taught me the most important was the value of family. Paul was so dedicated to his family that nothing mattered more to him. Thanks Paul for your friendship and all the great times we had together. R.I.P. Paul

I met Paul when I was a young officer in the SFPD. Paul was a mentor and role model for a lot of us younger officers. I am so fortunate that I became friends with Paul. His effect on my career was immeasureable, thank you so much for that. Rest in Peace, my old friend
