Pedro Pinto Obituary

Dr. Pedro Pinto, M.D. 81, beloved husband and father died May 14, 2008 after a rich and full life. His loving wife Alicia and five sons survive him: Stephan-Peter (Ingrid), Dennis, Nelson (Lori), Fr. Richard Fernando O.C.D., and Norman (Sonja); 11 grandchildren also survive him: Stephan Martin-Pinto, Alex, Nolan, Sophia, Samantha, Hunter, Hailey, Ryan, Tyler, Devon and Raquel. Pedro was born in Ecuador in 1926. He grew up in Quito and obtained his medical degree at the Central University there. He married Alicia and immediately traveled to the United States in 1952 where he earned his California Board Certification. He established a practice in San Francisco at 16th and Mission St. He became widely known throughout the Latin-American Community in the Mission District as a dedicated caregiver who was kind and generous. For 40 years he served as a staff physician at St. Luke's Hospital and later as chief of Family Practice. Medicine was his calling and his humble dedication to serving others was a natural part of his person. He held many honors including former presidency of the Pan American Medical Society and honorary consul of Ecuador and memberships with the CAFP, AAFP SFMA, CMA and AMA. He nourished a special love and bond with his family in Ecuador particularly with those of his wife and dear uncle, Eng. Pedro Pinto-Guzman. After retirement, he enjoyed the company of his sons' families, his many friends, and the Olympic Club activities. His travels with his wife of 55 years occasioned new friendships. Those whom his life touched remember him as a noble and exemplary husband, father, physician and friend. Family and friends are invited to attend the Rosary Vigil, Monday at 7 PM and the Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, 11 AM, May 20, 2008. Both at St. Brendan Church, 29 Rockaway Ave. in S.F. Private Burial. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Discalced Carmelite Friars at P.O. Box 2178 Redlands, CA 92373 McAVOY O'HARA COMPANY 415-668-0077

To the family of Dr. Pedro Pinto, please accept my prayers and condolences. I was so sad to hear of his passing. He was my mother’s doctor back in the late ’60 and she spoke very kindly of him. And I remember the kindness he gave when I worked for him after school at 16th and Mission. A very gentle and kind man, I will always remember him with love.

Dear Alicia and family,

I was saddened to read about Pedro's passing. I remember that he and my husband worked together when my husband was in the Senate and that they held each other in deep respect.

Pedro was a fine man professionally and personally who gave greatly to all who needed him. I know how deeply he cherished you and all the family.

If I can help now or at any time, please call 415-752-7867.

My son, Milton, a City College Trustee, joins me in sympathy as we recall Pedro's beautiful life.

May the family of Dr. Pinto accept my condolences on the loss of a wonderful man. He was my physician for several years, until his retirement, and I have never known a kinder doctor or person. I wish he could have had a longer retirement, but know he felt blessed to have the time given him with his family. His patients, friends and family will never forget him.
