Philip Perry Obituary

Philip W. Perry
July 11,1940 - December 21, 2020
Philip William Perry of Orinda, CA. passed away on December 21, 2020 from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Phil was born in Fullerton, CA. on July, 11, 1940 to Earl and Ina Perry. He graduated from Fullerton Union High School, then UCLA, summa cum laude. He spent 4 years as a Naval officer.

Phil earned a Ph.D in Economics from Stanford University. He taught at Occidental College and received the Loftsgordon Award as the single outstanding professor in the college in 1973-1974. He taught Economics at Stanford University as a visiting professor in 1974 and 1975. He achieved tenure as a professor, and decided to join Data Resources Inc., where he managed the company's Depository Institutions Practice and worked with 150 of the largest financial institutions. He also did consulting work for the Pacific Company. He ended his career with a return to teaching as a professor in the Graduate Business Program at St. Mary's College. He authored numerous articles and delivered papers at major economic conferences.

In 1962, Phil married Julie Susanne Bouchier. Their children are Philip Jonathan Perry, and Kristienne Perry Rassiger. He adored his eight grandchildren: Katie, Elizabeth, Grace, Philip and Richard Perry; and Natalie, Perry, and Annie Rassiger. Todd Rassiger and Elizabeth Cheney Perry are his son and daughter-in-law. He leaves his sister Susan Carl, and husband, Jim of Federal Way, Washington. He leaves his brother in law Bob Bouchier.

Phil loved playing and watching sports of all kinds. He was passionate about basketball and played through high school and as a freshman in college for John Wooden at UCLA. He played golf often.

Phil chose to not have services, but his family will gather in safer times. We thank his caregivers, Karen Villarosa, Rose Espinosa, Kernelly Senoren, Maritess Tano, and Liza Ray for wonderful care.

You're still remembered, Phil. You were one of the few that taught me how to teach and inspired me to follow a career that's a combination of industry and academia. That's taken me a long way. Hope you are resting in peace.

Phil was a tremendous educator who took his own time to assist in my graduate studies in Finance at St. Mary's. I was asked to play in the alumni golf tournament and agreed, only if I could play with Phil Perry...and we won the tournament. I have deep respect for Phil and hope that we can only be as honorable and of integrity as this man. Thank You, Phil. May your legacy carry on through your teachings and family. - Greg Bittner
