Pierre Berterretche, 97, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on December, 4, 2024, at his home in San Francisco, California.
Pierre is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie-Jeanne; son, Daniel (Laura); and was preceded in death by his eldest son, Dominic (Jackie). He was a loving grandfather to his adored granddaughter, Sylvia.
Born in Irissarry, France to Dominique and Marie Berterretche on October 30, 1927, he is survived by his sister Marie; and was preceded in death by his brothers, Michel and Chalbot.
In 1950, he immigrated to Tracy, California to pursue his American dream. His dreams were vast, but his heart and desire were even larger. Pierre worked as a carpenter for 35 years, and in addition he enjoyed running his own gardening business for over 50 years. His journey led him to many lifelong friends, countless family parties, club picnics, card games, mushroom foraging, and his great passion for trout fishing.
So many of his dear friends had passed before him and always remained in his heart. These lifetime memories, he would say, were his "bonne souvenirs." The last few years he courageously battled illness and is now rewarded with a reunion with those cherished friends and family who will welcome him with open arms.
Our profound thanks go to all the wonderful home caregivers, who lovingly and gently helped our family through this difficult time. Special thanks go to the hospice team of Abby and Laura for guiding us through with such compassion and professionalism. There is truly a special place for all of you in our family's hearts.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass, 10 AM Friday, December 13, 2024, at Notre Dame des Victoires Church, 566 Bush St., S.F. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Notre Dame des Victoires Church.
