June 13, 1940 - April 5, 2016
Dr. Ray Herbert Meyers, DDS, born June 13, 1940 in Los Angeles to Herbert and Carmen Meyers died Tuesday. April 5, 2016 of complications of congestive heart failure and recurrent prostate cancer. Ray was trying to get ahead of what he thought was severe nerve pain but turned out to be more complex and severe than his body could survive. He fought the good fight for over a month in the hospital, rehab centers and eventually home when his prognosis was certain. The whole time he charmed his doctors, nurses and home care assistants in the way only Ray could, stealing smiles, kisses and hugs while putting everyone else at ease.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

A memory: EVERY time I have a cup of tea,I think of Ray.When we were in dental school he taught me how to get that last drop from the tea bag. Place the soaked tea bag in the spoon and wind the string twice around the bag, squeezing it. Thanks for the tip ,and your dear friendship.

My wife, Yvonne, was a patient of Ray's for well over
30 years, loved Ray, and thought highly of him. I was his patient for 20 some years, and his dentistry was virtually pain free, for his jokes &
upbeat style took one's mind off of any discomfort........................

Your email reminded me of a unique clinical experience Ray had when we were seniors. Ray was taking a final upper jaw impression on a denture patient that had but ONE very wobbly tooth left. Well, when Ray removed the impression tray . . . out came the tooth in the impression! Ray's immediate comment : "Do I get credit for an extraction?" I was there and saw the tooth sticking out of the impression.

I am shocked. He was a friend since I was maybe twelve years old. I am just schocked. What an outstanding human being! He was a friend of my father too. Requiescat in pace.

Ray lit up the whole room......Been going to him
for over 35 years and he definitely practiced
'painless dentistry'.....I'm talking about his
jokes and irrepressible personality...(actually
I told him a lot jokes too...we made each other
hysterical with laughter). Ray was a sweet,
wonderful guy we will all miss.

To the Meyers Family, I'm very sorry to hear about Ray's passing - he was my first dentist when I was little. My parents Therese & Peter Cooper really liked Ray too. I can still hear Ray's infectious laugh and will always remember his sense of humor. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

To the Meyers family, Iris, Rosa et. al.
Ray was a truly great guy- our class president and the guy that put together our reunions. A terrific "people person" who was a wonderful dentist(having referred a number of patients to his office). Ray was always upbeat and will be remembered with that perpetual smile. He was "the class" of our class. Ernie Giachetti.

Ray, you always called me your brother and your children uncle thru all our years together since the 70's. The little league years with you and your children was such joy. All the trouble we got into will never be forgotten. I will love and miss you always. Enjoy your time with Scottie and Adrian and save me a place at the table with Panda, Arcima, Walker, and Barry. I love you always Brother....

Have so many fond memories of Ray at 490 Post St. I would try and make my appts late to enjoy what was hidden in the back cabinet. My sister and I were going to visit him at his office a few yrs ago then found he had retired already. A charmer he was. He is surely at peace and having a party up there in Heaven

Oh, the stories that we his patients could tell. I loved this man who made me laugh, filled my heart and mouth with gold, sang at appointments, wore white bucks and celebrated Hawaiin Fridays and "happy after hours" with my sister and me. When he moved to his "new" office at 490 Post, he asked me if I liked his waiting room chairs. When I replied yes,he said "thanks, you bought them for me".
Oh what a loss to this world.
